Question Help !!!

Hello everyone, Vickie here looking for your help with starting my lawn care service. I have read where everyone jumped in to help the lady with kids, Name and come up with original advertising for her business. That was great!
I am also one of few lawn services in the North west Florida Panhandle that's an single female owned business. I have 2 lawn mowers that are holding on by a prayer and a paper clip. I happened to land my first commercial contract for an chain department store, and am freaking out about it. I am so nervous that I am going to screw myself over on fertilizer cost and labor cost. And then again the fact that the mowers are about shot. I keep getting home renters and owners that want mowing done to yards that have not been mowed for months. I charge high and tell them it would cost less to have it done bi-weekly. Any advice for an newbie is much appreciated. Just need support guys and gals. And an new business name. Vick's Lawn Services

Default Helping vickie

Steve, I got into this business because I was laid off from construction / truck driver. I am what is considered one of the people that just has an hard time working for someone else. I Love the fact that I can call the shots whithout someone looking over my sholder. If I mess up then it's my fault and I pay for it. And I learn from my mistakes, so I can move foward.
Yes the lady was the one that painted the lawn mowers pink.
As far as mowers go... I have spent the whole summer mowing my ex-bosses yard to pay him for his old mower. Which is an Byers Gold A.K.A out of business mower manufactuing company from Kentucky. The thing now needs rings. I also have an snapper pro walk behind. I am still picking up customers and hope to get an better mower. Even if it's a used one.

Do you know if this is a commercial grade mower or consumer model?

I bet you have a lot of great skills then you could offer in property maintenance and home repair services.

Did any of the ideas we were talking about with her, interest you? I think there were quite a few that would help you stand out.

The Byers gold I think is an home owner model. But Built pretty tough. The Snapper I know is commercial. They are old and need alot of TLC.
I need to dig back in the forum and find where everyone was helping the other lady. I bet there were good Ideas that would appy. And the construction background I think I can sell to customers about washouts on their property how to prevent poor drainage and runoff.

The reason I was asking is because it might not be worth doing a ring job on a consumer based model.

Did you get a quote for this job?

Every home owner will have little jobs here or there they need done that they may not think to ask you to do. If you can, it might be a good idea to ask your current customers if they need any other jobs done around the house. Things may come up you didn't initially even think of.

Thanks Artie for the prayer's all are welcome! My girlfriend and I both own this business, so we sat down and came up with these ideas. What do you think? Two women and a mower, Two women and clunker, Mother Nature's Lawn.
