Blade sharpness & mower speed

Just curious how some of you keep the edge on your blades. Perhaps it is my imagination but I have been sharpening new high lift blades right from the dealer and it seems that my ground speeds on smoother terrain can be much higher yet maintain a quality cut. more so than than just a factory edge. I sharpen weekly but was thinking what a couple finish strokes of the file would do. makes sense to me, still just wondering if others consider such an extreme?

I don't think that is any kind of extreme at all, it just makes sense, the sharper the blade the better the cut. I normally sharpen 5 sets of blades ( each tractor has 3 hence 15 blades) and change them out every other day, i even have one set thats just for retention ponds or empty lots so i dont chew up the good ones. Along with that, all spindles are greased every sunday or mon. morning. I would rather spend the extra 10 min. to change blades then an extra 60 min. going back and forth on a yard with dull blades.
