Default Blueberries?

We have a small urban farm on our property. We have planted the hell out of it. Veggies, fruit, chickens you name it. Thus far we have been very successful in providing a lot of food for our family from our land. Yesterday we came home with another grand in trees and other bushes and what not. My wife wanted to plant blueberries out on the farm but I have no clue what to do with them. Any tips? I can put them anywhere from no sun to 14 hours of sun, climbing or just bushing out on the ground. What is the best way to do this to get the most use from the bush? Also while we are at it any tips for Avocados?

Blueberries grow well in zones 4 -6, somewhat in zone 7. Here in South Carolina zones 8 - 9, they don't grow (bare fruit anyway). My wife wanted them too. Check your zone to see if they will grow and bare fruit where you live (California if I remember correctly).

Its hard to say but according to this map http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/hzm-sw1.html it looks like we are in zone 8a or possibly 8b however they say those zones are down to 10-20F which is not true. It rarely drops to the low 40's once in a blue moon the high 30s the coldest part of the year here.

Default Temperature

Blueberries don't handle heat well, that's why they say zones 4-5-6. It's not the cold, it's the heat.

Ohhhhhhh ok that may be a problem. We do see 105 every now and then. Well they are payed for so its a little late to change our minds now so maybe a spot with a lot of shade would be best, or half and half to see which helps better.

Default no fruit

Mine have been in for 2 years now. Lots of vine but no blueberries to speak of. Maybe 20 total for 4 vines.

Ouch, that's not a lot of berries. Maybe best to plant them off the farm in the backyard of the house or something. I would hate to take up room with unproductive stuff out there.
