I really think this forum section is just begging for a wider discussion on the trials and tribulations not only of business but of life so I will start this discussion off simply enough by asking, did you ever see the movie Into The Wild? If so, what did you think of it?

Lawn care business tips

Loved it! Great movie. I think the whole soundtrack was done by Eddie Vedder. Anyway, there are some people out there that love to live this type of lifestyle. I like to think I am this way at heart, but with a wife and 3 kids and parents and a brother that I love dearly, it wouldnt be possible to live this way. But I envy the character.

For those of you who haven't seen it here is a summary "A young man leaves his middle class existence in pursuit of freedom from relationships and obligation. Giving up his home, family, all possessions but the few he carried on his back and donating all his savings to charity Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) embarks on a journey throughout America. His eventual aim is to travel into Alaska, into the wild, to spend time with nature, with 'real' existence, away from the trappings of the modern world. In the 20 months leading up to his Great Alaskan Adventure his travels lead him on a path of self-discovery, to examine and appreciate the world around him and to reflect on and heal from his troubled childhood and parents' sordid and abusive relationship. When he reaches Alaska he finds he has been insufficiently prepared for the hardships to come. Despite making it through the winter his plan is ill-judged and prepares to return home in spring, only to find the stream he crossed in the snow has become an impassable raging torrent and that he is trapped. With no means of sustaining himself adequately he eventually starves to death in his so sought after isolation. Throughout his epic journey the people he meets both influence and are influenced by the person he is and bring him to the eventual and tragic realization that "Happiness is only real when shared"."

With that I'd like to ask Brandon and others who might want to join in. When you say

Can you explain what about the lifestyle or the character you envy? Do you feel this is something that many men find themselves longing for and in this movie Chris just happened to be one who actually went and did what others dream of doing? Can you help us shed some light on this topic?

I love these types of movies, how could I have missed it?! I better find it!

I love adventures, I've ran away when I was younger & slept in parks, peoples parked boats & even a shed, & I also snuck into a apartment building & took a nap in a stairwell. Sometimes I was with my old friend & we'd be running from our parents lol...

You have to be smart! I had a few bucks & I bought cheap noodles in bulk baby! If your sleeping outdoors or in the cold, take your shoes off & you will become more warm.

Your hygiene becomes awful too, not to mention if you gotta do a number 2 you need to use the gas stations washroom which can actually be pretty convenient!

Is there anything to gain from going wild & leaving the system?

Yes, but very temporarily. You feel free & powerful, like your just about ready to do anything. You feel indestructible yet are seriously cautious, ready to jump over every fence to get where you want, not a reeeaaalll care in the world.

Though nothing beats having a job & just putting in your time & living a stable life & sitting in a comfy bed!

Another reason why it's good temporarily, you will appreciate what you had MORE. Your bed will never be so soft!

There is also a book that was written before the movie and before the book there was an article written about the story in a magazine called Outside

If you get a chance, read the story about, its like 10 pages but it really draws you in and will make you want to read the book which is now on my reading list too.
