I stopped at the bank today with the truck, & as I was leaving another company drove by, about 200 feet away & the driver gave me the middle finger.

LOL, to me, it's a good thing. I guess I'm noticeable? Or maybe he hates competition, I am in his area. OH WELL, plenty of grass to go around, it's all about service wars not price wars for me.


Another thing I was wondering about, when I do a lawn I bring alllllll of my gear into the backyard of the home in fear of theft. What do you guys do?

To reply to your first part, I'd say just push hard and make your business the best and most profitable it can be. Your goal should be to enjoy your business. It doesn't appear they are enjoying theirs.

In my open trailer I lock everything down that's not being used with cables and bicycle locks. I also have a large locking toolbox on the tung of that trailer.
My truck also has a locking aluminum tonneau cover .

Sometimes when I do leave my equipment in the truck, I bungee cord everything up, it doesn't help lol, it's just annoying to get too.

The last time I used the bungee cord I walked away from the truck & my whole shirt decided to stay.

My customer laughed so I said, "I guess it's getting hot out"

Apparently you are doing something right!!!

As far as prevent equipment theft, do any of you guys use wheel locks like "prolockers"?

This image shows an atv tire but they also make it in the mower version. Kinda price but I hear they are worth the money. Unlock the padlock, pull a pin, and back up. When you are ready to load again, pull in, line the wheel up with the locker, pull in, drop the pin, and apply padlock. Now you are ready to go. no straps and mower is stable. They advertise (or at least used to advertise) that the locks are strong enough that you can mount locker on a trailer, driver mower in, and be able to lift the trailer and mower vertical and the locker will hold the mower....

If you notice, the bottom left picture shows that there is something over the top of the tire that keeps the tire from "jumping" out.

that looks cool. sounds effortless but I'm using my estimate & quote powers to see through it. It might cause a hassle & take up space or the wheel might get stuck or the mower will flip or some crazy crap. lol...

It looks interesting, maybe they have a youtube video or something?

We all know mowers like to fly around while we drive...

During the busier part of my season here in Florida you tend to see many more LCO in the area. Some wave and some just don't care or even acknowledge you. I just keep on waving or saying hello when were cutting next to one another. Last year one company had an attitude problem and this year the Patron (Boss) came over to me and said, man your lawns always look nice and neat". He also said I just wish I could get my guys to be more consistent. I said smiling, send them to me for a week and Ill train them right and give them back to you. He laughed and said "stop making his company look bad". Now we run into each other all the time and make small talk or just wave to each other.

A smile goes a long way and has Great meaning.

We all gather in the morning at 7 for coffee, although it is the competition no one really cares to much, we all do our own thing but for the 20 min or so in the coffee shop it has nothing to do with business, we all just shoot the breeze and have a laugh, out in the field it's different.

Yeah It sounds nice to be able to be on good terms with another company, too bad it's not as good as being on this forum! I'd love to meet everyone here... The amount of empty beer bottles would be endless the following day...
