I think this was a smart move on Bon Jovi's part. They let New Jersey use their song for free in tourism commercials. It will then not only help the state but help the band by way of getting it played more.
How can you do similar promotional things on a more local scale?
CNN - New Jersey's tourism industry is getting some help from Sayreville native Jon Bon Jovi, who's lending his new hit single to a state advertising campaign.
"Who Says You Can't Go Home" will be featured in commercials throughout the region, Gov. Jon S. Corzine said during a state tourism conference in Atlantic City.
"We're going to have a different kind of ad campaign this year ** one that is fun, focused on something that is very positive from its perspective on New Jersey and from somebody we all know and love," Corzine said.
The song is riding high on the Billboard Hot 100 list and a duet version with Jennifer Nettles is near the top of the country charts.
Corzine and Bauer said Bon Jovi, along with fellow band member and songwriter Richie Sambora, waived royalty fees for the song so New Jersey could use it.
