I just love seeing people be creative and innovative. It feels so good to do it. To create. To make something better.

I just read an article and watched a video on Eddie Van Halen. He created a new guitar that is more durable than others on the market. Over the years of touring, he has gone through and destroyed many guitars so he knows what he would like changed on them.

In this video he talks about his newest guitar creation. With a price tag of $3000 it's not for everyone, but it just might be for you.

I have been thinking of adding solar hot water heater system to my tankless water heater to prehet the water going into the system. I think it would increase hot water savings.

Default Solar and Geothermal

That's interesting.

I've been reading quite a bit lately about geothermal gridworks and solar parabolic trough reflectors lately. It's really interesting how much energy you can save using what nature already provides.

One interesting concept I read about just the other day is laying black hose on the sunlit slope of your roof and then feeding that into your water heater. Depending on weather factors, this can heat the water several degrees before it enters the water heater.

Would like to hear your ideas.

If you have a chance of freezing weather, that is a bad idea. if it freezes and burst, the water damage could be great. Also if it does, your water will keep flowing after it thaws cost you in utility bills.

Have you done any research into what kind of temperature increase you could actually get from doing this?

I was stationed in Florida for 12 years. I had a solar hot watr heater on my house there. I had 4 3 x 6 collectors goint into a 500 gallon tank that fed a 30 gallon electric heater. Even in the winter (Jacksonville) I had 120 degree storage (500 gallon) temp.

My South Carolina house came equipped with the tankless heater. I think one 4 x 8 collector into a 50 gallon tank will be sufficient. The tank will be an element-less unit with a heat exchange coil. The transfer medium for the collector and heat rschange will be anti-freeze.

I haven't priced the equipment in many years so I have no idea of costs, but this will be my final home.

Maybe next winter. (I installed the last system during the summer and burned myself a number of times installing the collectors). Just a few minutes in the sun and they are too hot to handle,
