Default Sara Murphy from Murphy Property Maintenance

Hello All!

Hi, I'm Sara Murphy (Richard Murphy's wife)
here is a little bit about myself:

I was raised in a entrepreneurial family, My parents always worked for themselves.
Once I got out of high school I became a "professional Student" Going to school for paralegal, Nursing, and then finally Business (going back to my family roots)

I also worked in Timeshare for awhile.
Richard and I grew tired of making our boss' lots of money by running their companies, so we decided to venture on our own.

We now own and operate Murphy Property Maintenance.

So Hello All!

Hi Sara,

Welcome to our forum!

A lot of readers of the forum here never participate and they never feel comfortable enough to ask questions.

What advice do you have for other women that are looking to get into the entrepreneurial world? Does the process differ from a woman's point of view? If so, what things should a woman do or look out for in order to find success?

I am glad you are now on the forums.

Sara is the business end of the company and I wouldn't know what I would do without her. She takes care of all the accounting, directing office calls, sending out invoices, banking, and the list goes on.

Before we started Murphy Property Maintenance I ran a large landscaping company and I did everything...talk about being stressed out and spread too thin. I longed for someone like Sara to help me out.

She keeps me sane and pushes me to be great...everyone needs that type of support.

I think many people find themselves in situations where they are totally stressed out with the job they are working at.

Do you have any advice to those who are contemplating making the jump to starting their own business?

Hi Steve and thank you for the warm welcome!

advice for women looking to get into the entrepreneurial world?? well. I guess the advice I would give is to make sure your passionate about what you are doing and to always be prepared to "prove yourself". I know its the 21st century, but I feel I always have to put a little more effort into things.

I think this is a very good point and it is something that is elusive to many people. Do you have any advice on how one can find a passion for something? Or develop a passion for something?

It seems this is the core reason to why many people just never find any success at all.

Hi Steve,

well Steve, you are right. Many people don't find success and it is unfortunate. Success is hard to achieve (financial success and emotional). You really need to do a lot of thinking and figure out what makes you happy. also you need to find something that interests you. of course this takes time because everyone needs a job (Just Over Broke) to pay their way. but the key is to find something that challenges you (in a good way) and pays you. and that takes time!
and the mistake a lot of people make is when they do finally succeed and become successful, they drop the ball.

so to answer your question on how a person can "find passion" i cant really answer that one. all I do know is that i knew I wanted to be a self employed successful individual. I somewhat didn't care about what type of business. All i cared about was that I made my own money. example. maybe a typical person working for a company for 40 hours a week at a salary of $40,000 per year. My point is, I would rather work twice as hard and twice as long in order to make the same money but working for myself with my own company. I know some people might find that strange. but THAT IS my passion. you cant go out and think owning your own business will make you a millionaire (of course we all want that) you have to take it slow and be smart and the money WILL come.
