Default Low pressure roof cleaning?

I was looking at DJ's website which he has done a great job putting together and I saw a service I haven't seen before. The service of low pressure roof cleaning.

http://www.easypropropertyservices.c..._cleaning.html
http://easypropropertyservices.blogspot.com/

Now that is really interesting to me. I have seen plenty of roofs with the mossy build up and I didn't know it was eating away at the roof.

It seems like cleaning the roof shingles of the algae is a great idea and great selling point.

Has anyone ever experimented with this?

Lawn care business tips
Roof Cleaning is a very needed service. Most folks have never heard of it which is why it has its own set of marketing obstalces. Educating the public is job #1. Most think that they just need a new roof and roofing contractors certainly aren't arguing with them. Once they are educated it becomes an easy and profitable sale. We are saving these folks $$$.

Dj is a friend of mine and he took the time to learn the proper methods for roof cleaning. No pressure washers are even needed to clean. In fact, pressure washing them is frowned upon.

Thanks for helping to get the word out Steve.

This just fascinates me! I was out today looking at roofs and wouldn't you know it the more I looked, the more I saw the algae growth. It is unsightly but now knowing that it actually can destroy the roof, my gosh! If more people knew about that, then they would probably jump all over it!

What should people be doing to clean these roofs? Does low pressure roof cleaning mean you just use a hose and scrub brush of sorts? What advice do you have on cleaning this stuff off?

I didn't notice this page before http://www.asphaltroofing.org/pdf/tb_217.pdf but it's got a lot of great info on what the recommended solution is to clean the roof.

I was wondering what kind of safety precautions you suggest others use when up on the roof spraying it with this liquid?

Also, any suggestions on how to bid a roof cleaning job? Should a homeowner be charged by the square foot of the roof? Should you charge more for steep roofs? Can this at all be done by spraying the roof from a ladder?

Question

I was asked about moss on the roof at a customers house. I was told that the roofers should of put a Zinc facia strip to help prevent moss from forming. Any body else heard of this?

Did they want you to remove the moss?

Smile

sorry if i was a bit confusing. They were asking my advice and i heard that they should of put the strips on the house when the roof was installed. I totaly agree that it won't get rid of moss that already is there.
