Lawn care business tips
OH WOW! This has the potential to get really crazy. I hope you all are going to be safe.

I was watching a show the other day where the Army Corps of Engineers were talking about the walls holding back the sea were only designed for a level 3 hurricane at their max. Then it was showing how these walls failed for multiple reasons. It was really a fascinating show to watch from an engineering stand point.

I do look forwards to seeing the pics you take but above all else I hope nothing happens so you won't need to take any pictures.

What have they been doing down there with the evacuation so far and how has that been going?

Your mayor said "You need to be scared," Nagin said of the Category 4 hurricane tearing along Cuba's western coast. "You need to be concerned, and you need to get your butts moving out of New Orleans right now. This is the storm of the century."

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/weather/0...are/index.html

I almost can't believe that a storm could be worse than Katrina but it looks like this one has potential to do that.

Blaine,

Sorry to hear this thing is coming your way. As someone who has taken a direct hit from a Cat. 4 hurricane (Charlie in 2004).... get the hell out bro.
Don't be foolish. There isn't a damn thing there worth dying for & the mental illusion we me give ourselves of "I'll stay behind to watch over the house & make sure everything is ok....." is just that a huge illusion.
Once these storms are hitting hard enough for you to realize you can't do anything to stop any of the damage they cause, your now sitting there fearing for your life as they rip your house apart.... It's too damn late to run at that point. You end up thinking "what a stupid way to die, I could have just gotten the hell outta here".

Throw your jewelry, expensive tools, tax papers, guns & family photo albums in the car & get your *** out. I had to rebuild our house after Charlie, it sucked! But things can be replaced, lives can't.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

Chuck, that is good insight. I think a lot of people have this picture in their minds that they can do something, when actually they cant. I live in an area that has never been in a hurricane, and probably never will, so I dont know what one is going through when faced with these decisions. Just make smart choices when you can.
Good luck, Blaine

well my wifes parents and my parents both refuse to leave, so it seems we are staying, anyways.
good news though the storm has down sized alot, plus we have easy access to a boat if needed, and we are on the mississippi river ridge, which is the highest point in the city. I appreciate all the concern and I will keep you guys updated for as long as I can.we will more than likley loose power tonight or tomorow, depends on if gustav slows down any. he is comming at us at 15 mph( thats pretty fast, so he wont have the chance to drop that much rain in one spot.
The best part about not leaving is we will be one of the first companys available for clean up, gotta get the chain saw blades sharppened and ready to go.

Well if that is your final decision.... then good luck, God bless & stay safe my friend. I hope you have no reason to ever regret the decision to stay.

naw man, this thing is small now, nothing compared to Katrina.
Plus we are a good bit inland and on a high ridge, and my home is elevated 10'. no sweat.
dont get me wrong I am no down playing this thing at all, I know I have been through worst with alot less. we will be ok. my only concern are the trees that suround my neighborhood.
the biggest threat is on the west side of the Mississippi, I feel bad for them over there.
