Lawn care business tips

Bob, Thanks so much for offering this to the readers! I hope they take you up on this promotion. What date range would you suggest your customers mail out their fall marketing postcards? Also should they send them out once or the same one multiple times to the same customers?

I think timing really depends on your services and location. I start aeration right after labor day in the south east PA area. Some of my competition starts at the end of august. Now I do not do fall clean-ups but the leaves wont really start to fall for a while.

So with that said, I ordered my aeration postcards the other day and will be here next week, I will start getting them out as soon as they get here and will continue to hand them out through sept, and part of Oct.

As far as how often to mail, yes I always suggest that you should mail multiple times. Now on the other hand, and I have no concrete numbers on this, but I get a pretty good response from door hanger style marketing in the fall for core aeration. I don't know if it's because some look at it as a 1 time service, where in the spring its an annual program with multiple services. Who knows.

What I mean by "door hanger style" marketing is... I use the oversized postcards to put in mail boxes or on doors with a spot to write in an price. So when my technicians, or myself are out they can distribute them to neighbors of our customers.

One more thing, I tell my tech's to write their initials at the bottom. When someone signs up they get a commission on the sale. This way they will do it because they are reaping some benefit from it. I even pretended one tech got a sale and gave him commission cause I know he was handing them out, but just hadn't had anyone call, so I didn't want him to get discouraged.

So this should give you some ideas, on the fall if you haven't heard all this already.

That is great advice Bob. Do you have any suggestions on what kind of commission employees should be paid for distributing flyers and door hangers like that?
