Default how would you treat this customer

I had a guy come to my door wanting me to cut his dad's lawn. He saw my mowers out front. I really didn't want to do it as it is out side my standard area. I told him I would do it for $25. He didn't want every 7 days so we agreed on every 10 days. I cut it on July 7th, then on the 16th I called to let him know I would be there the next day (I require payment at time of service for this customer since it is outside my standard area.). He told me the grass was not high enough yet. So he calls tonight (10pm on 7/24/08) and says he wants it done tomorrw and that he just had trees cut and I would have to move them out of my way.

I told him I was going to have to weed him off my scheduel and he wanted to argue. He did not understand why. I told him I have a business to run and I was not making any profit from him. He still wanted to argu and couldn't grasp the concept as to why calling me 18 days after his last cut @ 10pm at night and wanting it completed the following day was unexceptable as a business owner. With in the conversation I told him it would be at least $5 more depending on the highth of the grass and this really P'ed him off, but he still kept arguing that I needed to come the next day and cut his grass.

I told him to call me back after he has the tree limbs moved (I don't move cut limbs) and I would let him know then if I will be able to fit him in my scheduele tomorrow.

Should I feel bad? What would you do?

You were being too nice. You should be charging more than that to mow a lawn
a) out of your area
b) every 10 days or more
c) having to put up with him

I would be charging AT LEAST $35 per service, more if I see fit.

I dont do any lawns unless they are 7 day services. Causes more work than necessary. This guy just seems like a cheap @ss. Pardon my French.

I think you have to be stubborn sometimes. You're the one in control, so don't let the customer boss you around.

I ditch people just to prove my point sometimes...call me a jerk, but I don't have to deal with their bs, and I let them know.

I think ultimately you want to focus on gaining weekly mowing customers. This customer didn't seem like they were fitting into that mold.

yes I am from Reynoldsburg I drive the green ford 150 small trailer with a 48"scag and a 33" white. I dont have my company name on my truck yet.

Small world deffinetly, I live in Reynoldburg, off Priestly on Papillon. I am just buying my first walk behind. Need to get a trailer also. Currently I have everything in the back of my Tahoe. That will no longer be an option with the walk behind.
