Question Toro Proline 32"

I'm thinking of purchasing one of these. Any opinions on them. It's on that has a round mowing deck, not a square or rectangular on. I can't even seem to find them on Toro's site, but it was new.

Lawn care business tips
Has anyone used one of these yet? I was only able to find a picture of the deck.

What got you interested in this model?

I bought (brand spanking new) a mower that I've only been able to put 61 hours on that has been such a POS that I'm planning on trading it in on a different machine. This one, my dealer told me is a really good machine. He told me that he has sold 6 of them in the last 2 weeks. I need a smaller (smaller than 36") mower for tight areas.

Can you tell us what you didn't like about it? And what you will be looking for in your next mower?

That will help others who are considering buying this mower.

I just bought a used one and it is nice. But i have never used anything other than a 21 home depot and a old 99 bobcat so it is the nicest thing i have ever used it came with a bagger but i cant seem to figure it out i think i am missing peices of it
In tall grass it will go right threw it but will leave clumps i am going to try to close the door on the side the guy i bought it from said it had a mulching blade so we will see if it still leave the clumps of grass or gets bogged down.

I know this is kind of an old post but I just came across it and thought I'd toss in my 2 cents.

Personally I have stayed away from these T handle style mowers. The issue with this style mower is that it has a shifting gear and you need to stop to get into reverse. That is fine for a starter mower because you are on a limited budget. If you have the money, I would not buy a new one of these but rather a used hydro walk behind. Which is exactly what I did. I tried this same mower under the Swisher name. In a lawn that took me 15 mins to mow with a 21" took me 40 mins with the Swisher. It was just too cumbersome for the small lot. Trying to get the right speed, trying to back up, turn etc. At least with the 21 inch I can mow pulling it backwards. That is why I would never buy a self-propelled mower unless it was hydro. I owned a self-propelled push mower years ago. I hated it. It always wanted to go forward even when I wanted to stop or go backward. They are heavier and the controls are more complicated. Pushing them while they are not running sucks too. If the ground is soft enough the wheels dig into the turf. I think the only reason people buy them is because they are more expensive - so they must be better right? I'll take a big wheel any day. Well back to the point...

The other similar walk behind I tried was a belt driven ferris. It too had a gear selector and you had to shift into reverse. I would rate it much higher because it had separate wheel controls. A BIG plus but I still believe the hyrdo is the way to go.

The least to get would be a single hydro unit. With this model you control forward and reverse speeds with the control of your thumbs. Turning it is muscling it or applying the separate wheels brakes - so it stops one wheel while the other drives you into a turn (it can be a complete 360). This is what I have.

But one better is the dual hydro. This unit has separate control for each wheel. You could literately put one wheel into reverse while the other is going forward for a very sharp and fast - just like a zero turn rider. The only down side I see is the moments you try to go it with only one hand. The dual (correct me if I'm wrong here) hydro requires both hands on the handles.

When you are looking at these different used mowers. What kind of engine hour range is acceptable to you? What things do you look for in a used mower and what is a deal breaker?
