i have a friend that is working for me on a job that has 15 years experiance in the landscaping industry, he sold a $800 irrigation job, for sitting heads and replacing heads and a new timer for the lady/ $200 in material, rest is labor and all
also he sold another job at the same house about fixing a landscape bank for a flower garden going down hill at $425. It calls for 30 landscape timbers at $3.25 a peace/ $97.50 in material, rest is labor and all
we charged the lady $1,225
$1,225-200 irrigation parts= $1,025
$1,025-97.50 landscape timers= 927.50
so i figured i would give him 37% of the profit which is 343.17 which i would round it off to $350
$927.50-350 for him, add the $200 back from material= $777.50 for me to profit
he is saying that is not fair that i profit that much, so what do u guys think, is $350 to much for him or after this should i find someone else to help me

Lawn care business tips

This is an interesting situation.
I feel for you with this.
Getting started is extremely difficult. The beginning is always tough. If he sticks around with you for a bit and helps you to push forwards and grow, I think what ever you pay him at the moment is worth it. He seems competent and is able to sell, since he was able to sell these upgrades to the customers.
Have you considered splitting it with him? You could withhold the proper amount of taxes from the split and make him happy. In a sense you are getting the benefit of a partner right now without having him as a legal partner. If he keeps helping you and making sales, your business will grow. You can then add staff and then always scale back the amount your giving him later as you get the infrastructure built more. Right now it seems like he is really helping you out and if he is, you could let him know you appreciate it.
What's your view?

Kind of depends on who is footing the bill for the equipment if you ask me.. If you are using your vehicle/fuel, tools etc. etc. I think you can justify the bigger portion of the money. To me 50% profit requires 50% investment. Just my opinion.. Hope this works out for you..

yeah he is definitly helping the business grow. We are getting along better now on teh moeny stuff, lol. At times he is like "watch this" and he sales a service. There was one customer that we was there to do one service and he sold 3 more again at the same house, he told the lady" can i talk you into anything else", i guess she needed the stuff done sometime or another so she let us do it.
the ladys house we did of the above post is a lawyer, and i am pretty sure she will be talking about our work. She has a flower garden that she loves(where the hill is at) that she had to give water to it all the time. We solved that problem, lol we installed misters in there, and told her that she would have to never water that herself again. She had a water hose pulled out to it, and had it has a drip system.
i have pics of work, and all i will post soon

I would do a 60% 40%. You get 60% being the owner, your equipment, and money, and he gets the 40% for making the sale and helping. I think that is fair.

right now i am giving him 37% and i keep 73% due to me owning the business and equipment cost and such.

Question:
Who pay's for lunch and drinks and throuws the summer parties and christmas dinner and gives bonus'? So in my book you need to pay him just the way you are doing.
