Please feel free to answer this anyway you want.

Do you find new equipment or more equipment makes your company more legitimate? Do you know others that do?

Did you ever feel that way in the past?

Do bragging rights exist in this industry where one company can drive by another and feel superior because they have more equipment in their trailer or a newer truck?

To me it doesn't make me feel more legit, but I have standards of my own. When it comes to a vehicle I just won't drive a beater, so I like my stuff to look nice. I know of alot of guys that feel because they have nice new equipment they're doing good, I know of one that is known as the nicest around here but they're slowly going out of business.

I currently have a 96 f250 diesel that I try to keep in nice shape, and my mower is a 98 bobcat belt drive, again I keep it clean. The bobcat leaves the best stripes I've ever done and it has no stripe kit at all, so why change it if its doing great. I'm getting a Z this year just for larger properties and effeciency, not to try to show off.

My thought is, if your sole reason to purchase a piece of equipment is to look good, you shouldn't be running your own business, and you probably won't be after time.

I used to and sometimes still think that by having more equipment it is better. I know that it's not always true, but customers will recognize a company with the amount of equipment they have.

Reminds me of a coversation I overheard two people talking about at a restuarant last fall about the large local lco here. They were talking about the big leaf vaccum that the company had and how it was going around sucking up the leaves, and how great of a job it was doing. They said it was an amazing piece of equipment.

Right there is a perfect example of customers talking about the equipment and not necessarily the company

Ahh very interesting points. It is fascinating the daily struggle we find ourselves in when we think of such topics.
It also makes you wonder, how many smaller lcos are out there flying under the radar. Companies you wouldn't think twice about being competitive and then little do we know they are doing a highly profitable business.
