This is a great forum with lots of great information!!! *THANK YOU!!

My question centers around a marketing message....I am a recently "retired" Chief Financial Officer and CPA and want to get into the mowing (maybe more later) business and plan on using flyers late winter in some upscale neighborhoods.

Would there be any advantage (or disadvantage) of marketing my experience as a recently retired financial executive in my ads....? *I am just trying to deliver a message that I understand what it takes to deliver a *professional and quality service for a great value to the customer. *And not some fly by night company. IF there is value in that message I think it makes sense to get it on my flyers.....Thoughts? Thanks!

Lawn care business tips
Hi RJO,

Welcome to our forum!

That sounds fascinating! We could always use some good financial advice here. Please feel free to make posts and respond to topics on such issues! You could teach us all a lot.

Any thoughts as to why you decided to get into the lawn care industry? What about running your own accounting firm? Or did the stress just burn you out of that field?

That is a very good question.

I am thinking one of the things you could do is use this information to tell a little about yourself to your customers. Being reliable is VERY important in this industry. I hear complaints all the time from people that called this or that fly by night business and they never show up. So this could position you as being reliable.

Maybe you could call your business The Lawn Accountant "For 20 years you trusted me with your finances, now you can trust me with your lawn."

If you took that route you could make it fun and come up with a fun logo as well. You could also play up the reliable part and the trust part.

That's just off the top of my head.

Let's hear some of your reflections on this.

and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Do you want to tie the accountant theme into your new business venture or are you thinking of another angle?

Not necessarily....but maybe an interesting way to add "credibilty" and "reliability" to my new business....

Well another way we have seen to help come up with a new business name is combining it with some hobby you have.

For instance one of our forum members named their business Green Paws Lawn Care because they have such a love for dogs. They also plan on mixing the two together in the future and have pet pictures on their site to help get local pets adopted.

Do you have any interests you really enjoy that could be used to pull together a new name or business theme?

I love to play golf.....had thought of Fairway Lawn Care...but that name is in use in KC area.....Considered Tee Time Lawn Care....but not sure that if that has a very good ring to it....or if non golfer's know what "tee time" means......but will keep thinking about other names......

I like tee time lawn care!
What about Club House Lawn Care.
Club House Turf Care
Golf Lawn Care
Hole in one Lawn Care
Par 4 Lawn Care

Then you could take pictures of yourself out playing golf and in your marketing material you could say something like spend more time doing what you love and less time working on your lawn.

I think the theme would be a blast!

You could take vacations to visit different golf courses and take photos of them. Interview the turf specialists that work there and have this as added content on your lawn care site.

You could also potentially install synthetic turf putting ranges.

Maybe you could have a tour in your area where the different putting ranges are open up to the community and everyone gets a chance to get out and meet / greet each other!

Tee Time is neat because one might think of golf or if you don't know the spelling you might think you have time for tea. So either way it would work.

How would you rate the socio economic area you would be servicing?

Would this be a group that plays golf?
