I've been looking at ATVs and the implements you can get for them. I'm amazed at the variety of attachments out there and the capabilities of the machines.

Quite a few of the implements are aimed at our profession which got me to thinking about utilizing these things. Before I do that, I'd would like to hear from anybody that is currently employing an ATV or two in their business.

What are you using them for? What are the pros and cons? Good experiences or bad?

You know, the first thing I thought of was could you get an ATV that could be business functional as well as be used for fun? Or does that not interest you at all when considering this?

I have every intention of using one for recreation. Its just that the primary use would be for business if I can truly put one to work to justify buying one.

I was thinking ahead to some extent as well. In southeast Minn. there is the Root River Bicycle Trail system which passes right in front of my in-law's house. The maintenance is done by bid. I was thinking towing an offset finish mower behind an ATV would be the best way to do it. Since I'll be moving out there in about 4 yrs time, why not include that into an ongoing 5 yr business plan.

Otherwise I'm wondering about rototilling, snow removal, and other jobs the ATV can do where larger machinery is a liability.

I think it would work well for me as long as I limit snow clearing to residential driveways. I've been told more than once by customers they are tired of lawns rolled and dug up by plows and would welcome having the driveway done via snowblower.

Seems to me that the combination of the ATV and that 23 hp rig is lots cheaper than a truck and plow, yet lots faster than a typical walk behind snowblower.

The whole snow removal idea is what I was looking into that brought ATVs into the picture.
