Lawn care business tips

Oh that is very interesting. You know, I would think in the right area, where you had some money and space to install them, they could really be popular. Do you have any pictures you could share with us of your installation? I'd love to see them.
You could use your pictures as promotional shots for your marketing material!
How long did it take to install this and what was the inspiration for it?

post some pictures of your work. I know of only one company around here that installs both real and artifical ones. I personally have only seen one real one though because of how hard they are to maintain and prevent disease.

Hi Quickcleanlawn,
I worked on a golf course for 6 and a half years, i did constant work on bentgrass greens which is a coolseason turf & also maintaining it at 3.5mm in the hot aussie summer was a challenge and i learnt alot, i also helped with installing nine new greens on the course.
I am not too sure exactly where you are located and what type of turf/seed you would plan to use for your green, but i can tell you that installation is the easy part, bringing the green to life and maintaining it is the tricky part.
To maintain turf at such a low height will require you to oversee every green that you installed CONSTANTLY, pretty much on a daily basis, the question is whether people will be willing to pay you for your time because turf cut at such a low height can look good one minute and then all of a sudden start to go off and require attention *within hours. so it would be hard to quote for maintenance of the turf, it would cost alot more than maintaining a lawn.
This is why when it comes to putting greens in backyards its usually artifical turf or the individual oversees thier putting green daily which was installed by themselves.

Scott,
How is the market in Australia for installing putting greens? Is this a service that exists?

Well i don't think I'll be pursuing putting greens as a biz anymore.
The one in my yard is coming along ok.but like turf said, it is probably going to be way to expensive to have to pay to keep them maintained.
it would be great if the market called for them but I dought it ever will around here.

What about using artificial turf? Would that work?

Hi guys,
Installation of real putting greens in the domestic section is non existent here in Australia because it just requires too much ongoing maintenance and the climate just dosent help. but installation of Artificial putting greens is an industry in itself, great business idea becuase there is a market for it but you will have to be targeting the very wealthy areas and keeping in mind its the type of work that will require you to probably travel far distances to get, quote and start on new jobs.
From what i am aware of its usually businesses that install artificial sports turf for eg: bowling greens, hockey fields etc... that also do this as an offshoot for homeowners as it requires alot of machinery/excavation type of work, and a background in landscape or golf course construction, for the more difficult jobs.
