86 homes in a fairly new neighborhood, 6 years old. This is the 2nd newsletter for the neighborhood. The 1st was 6 months ago. I plan on sponsoring it as often as possible but will probably only get to once each year. Will work on targeting seasonal services as the newsletters evolve and are published on a regular basis. The newsletters are hand delivered and left on each front door.
Thanks for the insight!

If you could put together these newsletters more often! WOW! You would have something there. Even if you could do them seasonally. Maybe you could collect news in the area or updates from the hoa and put this out for them. What a great way to market!

Do you have a picture of the newsletter? I'd love to see it!

Default Newsletters and targeting clients

I am wondering what your response rate has been for the newsletters and if folks feel at all that you are invading their privacy at all. I have an animal control business and if I see gopher or mole damage I will leave a business card on the front door. I heard of a mole control person putting his flier in a sandwich bag with a rock and just tossing it from his car on mole mounds but that seems a little invasive. I have send out a few letters to property managers, real estate folks and others but have found the best source of clients has been referrals or giving informative lectures.
Also I can see anyone doing lawn care learning how to work with gophers, moles and other animals easily. I find it interesting that the many landscapers and lawn care people I work for don't just learn the techniques and buy some traps. Some of my clients have worked out a deal where I charge a little less for the service and they include my service in their bill and make a few extra dollars that way.
Good luck,
Thomas

Default Benda Board

My company, Epic Plastics, manufactures several profiles of professional landscape edging. We are moving eastward from California but understand that Benda Board is not a widely accepted product East of the Mississippi. Any insight on how we can expand the acceptance of our products would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to our forum!

Do you have a website so we can see some of your products?

Thomas, how did being on HGTV help? Did people see you on there and call you or was it more of a way to create a better image for your company and brand build? I think that was great exposure and I watched the episode. You could even give us some mini seminars an here and make some posts on how to deal with these different gopher issues and show us which of your products would work best in dealing with them.

Default "Say Hello !!!" update

The HGTV segment was very good for my online sales and continues to turn up over and over. They found me via a referral from a well known seed company. It was interesting in that it took six hours to film that five minute segment and that they would not show more of the trapping as dead gophers or any other animal are a problem on national TV. I have also been on many radio shows and local TV shows. People love to talk about gophers and everyone has a favorite story - and then there is Caddyshack as well. I give a lot of lectures in the West and find that part fun, interesting and sometimes lucrative. It always helps to drive my online sales and local clients. I also do consulting for companies installing wire under sod and hardscapes and sell the wire as well. It seems that you have to have a lot of angles on any business to make a living. I also work with all other animal problems. Right now as we enter winter skunks, opossum and raccoons are finding homes under and in peoples homes.
There is a lot of information on my site but I would be happy to answer any questions and am open to the seminar idea.
Best,
Thomas

Thomas,

That is fantastic! Do you think the same marketing concepts could work for a lawn care business owner trying to reach out to more customers? Should they do lectures and seminars? Any advice as to where to get started doing that? How to overcome the fear of public speaking? Also how do you promote that you are available for public speaking engagements?
