Question On Hiring. How Much Should I Pay?

A question was asked on the lawn care forum on how to go about hiring a new employee. How much should the lawn care business owner pay them per hour? An interesting discussion followed and James told us when he hires a new employee, he pays them $8.00 per hour no matter who they are and then after 6 months, he re-evaluates them to see if they should be promoted or fired.

Lawn Care Marketing Idea

This past month I got the chance to meet up with a new forum member Eric, who runs the company http://www.stealthdumptrucks.com He used to run a lawn care business but sold it off to explore the niche market of pickup bed dump conversions. In a post Eric shared with us some of his marketing ideas that made him so successful in his lawn care business. Eric said he used to send out letters to his customers that included some business cards wrapped in a dollar bill. In the letter he would ask his customers to please spread the word about his lawn care business services, to their friends and family. The idea really helped him expand his business.

Another Lawn Care Marketing Idea

Matt made a post about how he created these bid cards and distributed them out around his area. He would print four cards per piece of bright yellow stock paper and on the card he was able to jot down a price to service the lawn per week. He would place these postcards in the newspaper boxes of residential homes around town.

Also Chuck shared with us an idea about how he marketed his lawn care business at his part time job's building. Chuck works at a car lube center and on the counter at the facility, Chuck placed a flyer promoting his lawn care business. He also had a bunch of business cards to allow customers to take one. It seems a lot of people did take the cards from the display. So keep in mind, if you are working a part time job besides your lawn care business, you should always be thinking how you can reach out to this group and turn them into future customers for your lawn care business.
