Ok if this is not one of your worst nightmares. The sheriff shows up to arrest an employee only to find more drugs at your office. Men charged with distributing heroin - The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit arrested two men at a Charlotte Harbor business Tuesday afternoon. They were accused of selling narcotics, including heroin. Police initially went to Racing Zone Lawn Care at 23240 Harper Ave. looking for employee David Allen Fernandez, 28, 1533 Pulaski St., Port Charlotte, who had allegedly sold heroin during two undercover purchases by the Narcotics Unit in December, a CCSO report said. While at Racing Zone, owner Jose Hiram Melendez, 35, of 2511 San Maria Circle in North Port, gave the police permission to search the business, the report said. During the search, police turned up eight plastic bags of heroin, four bags of marijuana, a spoon and a hypodermic needle, the report said. Fernandez was charged with two counts of sale and delivery of heroin, two counts of possession of heroin, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of heroin with intent to distribute. He was also charged with smuggling contraband into a correctional facility when a search at Charlotte County Jail revealed he had a small baggie, a straw, 2.4 grams of heroin and $1,368 cash on his person, the report said.

That would be one of the worst things to happen. Also think about the bad press the business would get for it. If I was a customer on that company, and heard about that, I would find someone else, even though they caught the guy.

Totally.

Quite often sellers are users. There had to be some writing on the wall. Something simple like wearing long sleeves in hot weather to hide track marks and wearing sunglasses indoors to hide his eyes. Or how about the numbers of visitors, repeat and otherwise, that may have been showing up or calling the office? Any of them look out of place? There are plenty of things Fernandez may have been doing to tip off the boss.

Makes me wonder just how much the boss knew or how much attention he really pays attention to the business.

Such activity costs us legitimate business owners in more ways than one.
