I can't even recount the number of times I constructed crude ramps on my driveway as a kid. I would pretend I was jumping Snake River Canyon or the fountains at Ceasar's Palace.

Evel Knievel Dies at 69
By MITCH STACY – 46 minutes ago

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose jumps over Greyhound buses, live sharks and Idaho's Snake River Canyon made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.

You know, I am glad you posted about this.

One of the things I have been trying to do more of it to reflect on peoples lives, on this forum.

Evel was no doubt a rebel.

If you get a chance, read the wikipedia entry about him.

This is a part I thought was great. He really knew how to get things to happen. Check out this story on how he was able to B.S. his way into jumping the fountains at Caesars Palace. That is classic! LOL

It just goes to show you that many times to find success, you need to be creative and have a little luck on your side.

Evel Knievel - While in Las Vegas, Nevada, to watch Dick Tiger fight a middleweight title fight, Knievel first saw the fountains at Caesars Palace and decided to jump them. To get an audience with the casino's CEO Jay Sarno, Knievel created a fictitious corporation called Evel Knievel Enterprises and three fictitious lawyers to make phone calls to Sarno. Knievel also placed phone calls to Sarno claiming to be from ABC-TV and Sports Illustrated inquiring about the jump. Sarno finally agreed to meet Knievel and the deal was set for Knievel to jump the fountains on December 31, 1967. After the deal was set, Knievel tried to get ABC to air the event live on Wide World of Sports. ABC declined, but said that if Knievel had the jump filmed and it was as spectacular as he said it would be, they would consider using it later.
