The World Wrestling Entertainment group has put out a full page ad in the New York Times today promoting their "Tribute to the troops" show. In the tag line they say "We left the thank you cards home and shipped the whole show.
What does this do? It builds bonds with their viewing audience who are soldiers it also puts them in a positive light as good guys for pulling this show together and it creates an event to attract more viewers to watch.
Since it is something different, their advertisement has actually created buzz, as we are talking about it right here.

From the WWE pages you can see an article about some WWE stars flying into Iraq and taking small arms fire as they landed. On the page you see an advertisement for what? The National Guard. What a tie in!
The folks at the WWE know how to promote and how to entertain and they have been doing so for quite a long time. It is just amazing how they can get their wrestling shows sponsored by the National Guard and then create a show in which they visit members of the National Guard out in a war zone. It is just brilliant marketing, Public Relations and Goodwill on their part.
Everyone walks away from this experience feeling good. Both the WWE and the National Guard get more media attention because of it all.
