I'm interested in doing a small direct mailing to a targeted 1000 homes. I was wondering what companies everyone has used that's done direct mailing?

I checked into 48hourprint.com and they aren't too bad on price, but I'm not sure if I can target the homes. I could and would do the mailing myself, I know I'd need to purchase a list off the internet, then print labels and label all of the postcards, and I've read I'd need to get a bulk mail permit then.

Any websites with info on how to go about doing this?

Lawn care business tips
If you want to try this yourself, I think you could do it.

Check out this site for a mailing list
http://www.melissadata.com/listnewhomeowners.htm

See if they can get you what you want.

We can talk more about the steps you need to take or if you are not interested in that route we will find some companies to handle it all for you.

I wasn't going to do direct mailing at all this year because of the price, but I've heard of so many people (VIA internet) that did small direct mailing runs and saw very good success from it. If I saw a .5% to 1% close rate (5-10 customers) I'd be very pleased with that.

I'm going to check that website out in alittle bit TG, thanks for the link.

I think we could walk you through the process of doing your own direct mailings.

What was the cost you saw of having others do it for you?

48hourprint.com wanted double their printing cost for their mailing service. So for 1000 postcards they wanted 150 to print or 299 to print and do all the mailing, plus postage. Which isn't too bad of a price. That was for 4x6 postcards.

I was reading on another forum and someone said they looked into the bulk mailing permit and its something like 300 dollars. If thats true it would be better to just go with someone to do it for me.

Kurt,

Here is some more info on bulk mailing http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm200/discount.htm.

You do need to pay for a permit and it very well could be upwards of $300. You also need to renew it each year.

How does 48hourprint.com handle the mailing lists? Do they get the list for you or do you need to provide it?
