ok guys here goes. I was at work tonight and was talking to my boss. He owns a 2006 hummer h2. We got started talking about miles per gallon on his vehicle. He told me when he bought it he was getting around 13 mpg city and around 18 mpg highway. Well he has always really been into cars and such and he asked me how was my mileage. I own a 2004 f-150 4x4 lariat and told him i get about 10 mpg city and about 13 highway. He told me that i need to change to a k & n air filter and also replace the air intake with one from k & n. He said he has used these filters for years. They can be cleaned and sprayed with something and are just like new again. And they also help you get better mileage and more horsepower due to their design. He said he replaced the one on the hummer with the k & n filter and his mileage went to about 17 city and about 21 highway. I find this hard to believe but he swears by them and has been fooling with cars his whole life. does anyone have any experience with this and if so does it really make that much of a difference. I was looking at their website and they have some great testimonials about the effectiveness of these filters. Do any of ya'll have any experience with this if so please tell me about it whether it be positive or negative. Thanks. i gotta do something because my mpg is killing me. It costs $120.00 to fill up my truck now and i am taking a beating.

Lawn care business tips
Yeah, K&N's cn really help. I had one in my old truck (just the filter , not the intake) and even that brought on a 2-3 mpg difference & it adds on average 10-12 HP. The cold air intake will up those stats even more. I have an 05 f150 supercab 4x2 with the 5.4L Triton now. This is an upgrade I'll be making soon Gmoney. I had bought a performance tunner for the truck & reset the engine on an economy mode to help save fuel which seemed to work & saved about 2 mpg..... then I noticed if I was at 50-60 mph & accelerated (like trying to get on the highway) the truck fell on it's face like the trans was slipping. I figured it out! ....I'm kickin the truck in the butt, the engine was going MORE FUEL, MORE FUEL! & the fuel pump was going NOPE, WE'RE IN ECONOMY MODE!

So I had to restore the PCM (powertrain control module) to the factory settings. Back to suckin down the moo juice!

Yeah the K&N with cold air intake will help. Adding true dual exhaust would help too. Oddly enough both upgrades add horse power while reducing fuel consumption. But more air in the mix means less fuel. So let the air burn baby!

Gerald,

Here is another post that talks about getting better fuel economy. See if this is helpful.

I went today and bought the regular k & n air filter. Will put it on in the morning. They want 350.00 for the whole new k & n intake setup but cash is tight right now so i will have to wait a little while to get that but hopefully this helps out a little bit. I looked at the chips and stuff like that but a friend of mine is a mechanic and he said it really is not worth it. I would do better with the k & n intake and filters and also switch over to a flowmaster muffler setup also. I will go get a price on the flowmaster and probably try it to along with the intake setup. Hey chuck does your truck have thye 18 in. tires. Mine has 50,000 miles and still has the original tires but they are getting very bald and i went to price them and the cheapest price i found for 4 tires was 1300.00. i almost lost my mind when they told me the price. Anybody no any good places to maybe buy tires at a good price and maybe have them shipped to my house and then pay to have them put on?

Gerald,

*Your gonna love me for this one pal....
*I got te hook up for ya (once apon a time I ran a Tire Kingdom for a few years).

* What size tires do you have on it? 265-60-18 or
275-65-18? if it is the former, I have done some checking for ya & you can pick up a set of BFG Long trail t/a's (the only tire I will put on any of my trucks) for $106 bucks a piece!
Here is the link to the page where I did yer homework for you (on that size:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires....Index=0

HOLLY **** that's a long link! * Double check that I have entered the right vehicle information for you or just start over at http://www.tirerack.com

Your welcome.

Chuck,
That is awesome i really appreciate all of your help. I like the looks of the long trail but my tires are 275-65-r18 and they do not make them in that size. If i went down to the 265's would it make a big difference i don't know much about tires. I like the height that my truck sits at right now would it make a difference.
