Earlier this week we were contacted by Gravely and they asked us to reconsider their line. We have used the machines for years but due to dealer differances we moved on. Today I spoke with my contact and he was interested in making it work for us. His first words involved 65 units over a 5 year rotation.

After some talk he offered the ZT-HD 44"-60" as part of commercial fleet pricing.
He asked me to come out and meet the regional rep this comming week around the knoxville, Chatanooga areas.
he will be showing the 400 series mower but understood the ZT-HD would be our go to mowers.

He informed me he would locate a dealer willing to discount the mowers to $4351-4671.00 for the 44"-60"
I still have to follow the fleet program of a $12000.00 purchase per year.

Now I am waiting to find out who the dealer will be, also as per our agreement he is finding a Gravely dealer who sales Husqvarna 2-cycle .

How important is it that the dealership is close enough to get your mowers fixed quickly when needed?

Also, would any other manufacturers meet or beat this offer?

The distance is unimportant for the repairs as long as we can drive monthly and have him check their machines.


I have only talked to a rep. I have no further plans until we meet
If everything works out I will buy about 65 units over 5 years.
Now plans for after the sale.
The rep in contact with me will try and find a dealer who wants/ needs the
Volume. The rep said he will also confirm that deals is a Husqvarna rep.


If that rep falls through I also spent the better part of a hour to
Talking to a equipment dealer in texas willing to deliver to me at memphis and that dealt is the same prices as well. He also sales grasshoppers so I will be ok.

Well odd enough today the rep calls me and wants me to come out and meet him. It's after noon when he calls the office, they call me and I am a hour away

Then he tellse he has a guy with him and now NOO MOWER
Yet the initial contact said they had a mower to demo.
and then they say it's 3 hours from where I was to them.
I was east of Winchester a hour hour and a half out but ok.
Then he says ok I explained your company to guy and I think I did it wrong , you tell him ...... Ok then he wants to know where we are based and.... Then wanted to know what dealer I use to help pin me down.

This is after I told him where I was and my office personel told him I was out.
Sounds like they want to play forum games ???
So I will entertain this come Monday by meeting in Nashville at noon ( I will be in Franklin so it's not a waste to me either way, but they have me ready to walk just the same. It is absolutely none of their business who or what we are.and I guess paying cash would be a shock to them???
I had to ruin my camping trip with phone tag, they called 3 times after being told I was out and I would call them back. Pushy don't work withe at all.
I was 80% gravely now it's down to 30% because they are not doing what they said, already.

My dealer sends his sales manager OUT to meet with perspective clients, he doesn't ask the client to come in. Bill puts more miles on a truck and a trailer full of equipment in a month than most LCO's put on their vehicles in a year.

With 65 units over a 5 year spread, they should be knocking on your door weekly.

So if you call the dealership asking about a certain mower, they will bring one out to you for you to try out? Does it have to be a certain priced mower for them to do this?

Have you ever tested out a mower this way?

An established company, yes they do. A seriously established company buying units (plural) per year, you betcha. And they have a network of manufacturer approved dealer/repair shops to keep them serviced and up and running no matter where they are.

I'm just getting started, so, I'm not on the A list and that doesn't bother me. It is a goal to work toward. 65 units over 5 years, yeah, you'd be on the big dog list. But, they know their clientele and they don't play games with wannabees.

Frankly, as competitive as the market is, I can't imagine a dealership NOT providing this service. Even car dealers (new or used) will take a car to a serious lead for a test drive. Does the rest of the world NOT do this? Dealers understand that time is money and are willing to go the extra mile to make sales.

Maybe it's different, wherever "there" is.

Now, I'm the new guy on this block so I don't know everyone here. How many of the people here are "big dogs"? Let's qualify that by setting a bar of say, 300 or more regular clients. People like myself come in here to try to better themselves, their business and share their dreams and concerns. They try to HELP each other. A lot of us are not on the A list yet and may never be on the A list. But we are serious and we don't have time to deal with drama that continually comes from a very narrow direction.

OK well, all I can say is this...This site is one of the best business tools anyone in this type of business could have....Thank you Steve! Some on here like to brag about what they do or say they do and not actually do it and others get caught up in that. Our opinions vary from one another, and everyone has one. I think most want to come on here and learn from one another and teach or help others out...that is what this site is for and for the most part that is what it does. There are only a few that rant and rave about petty sh** and before you know it here we are fighting among ourselves for nothing. It is Steve's job as administrator to edit such posts as he see's fit to. I would think that most posts that are edited are do to content. Dan Tanner...well said!

Steve , other members don't get me wrong.
My dealer told me he would let me run any mower I want.

The guys I am talking about ( name dropping)
Jerry Harris and bill cloister , neither know me and I don't know one from the other. One said he had a 460 the other said he had no mower.

I agree my dealers do more them jump through hoops, these guys just have no business asking about my business, their job is to do what they said admit play games and then take my check.

I have a dealer in Tennessee and in Texas who said h*** yes I want your business.
Texas said he would line up the trailers and Husqvarna too even though he don't do it for others, but me.

My point is I don't respect a man who says yea thee dealer will have husquvarna 2 cycle and then they don't give me the dealer I want but one that's his buddy.

Also remember I have used husquvarna for years and I have that dealer who is way out a limb with us.
He is giving enclosed trailers entire setups. I never said gravely was a sell .

I am going to a gravely dealer who wants my business, we shall see( as previously stated). And he is selling me the zt34 as well.

Something else members don't get about a company my size.
Every 5 years I look for better deals to save money(this year)
I am not looking for a dealer who has 1 mechanic .
When I call the guy I am asking for shipments
He need to get me truck loaders mowing stuff,
And willing to go to the limb at times and I may ask him to send me a truck if I ask. Some guys are confident enough to go yes others are not.

If Texas is reading chime in on what I say.
