Default My Sunday Garage Blues

The gf decided to go to her parents this weekend for the holiday, I had to work my regular gig saturday so I stayed home. Saturday night I decided to go for a few drinks and get some wings.

Skip to Sunday morning 6am, feeling like I ate to many wings and was still a little buzzed I determined to get some work done today in the garage.

The first thing I wanted to do was to see if the new big compressor can be powered up by the garages 15amp service. It started to turn and then popped the fuse. I walked to the side of the garage in the wind, still cold out and reset the breaker. I walked back to my bay(12bays, I have two of them)in my complex, and turned on the compressor again, mrrrrrrrrrmmmmp pop, breaker goes. I do the walk of shame again.

This process took place more times then the sound of the chicken wing bones hitting the plate last night.

Pist off beyond believe I realized the compressor was a little low on oil, added some, tilted it to get the fluids all nice and spred out, checked the level added some more. turned it on and Bam it fired up and the breaker did not pop.

Now to go back a few days, the reason I wanted to get this big compressor running is because I need to get 80psi of air in my truck tires and 50 in the trailer tires. the gas stations around here do not have the power in the pumps to do this, and parking the rig is almost impossible at the stations for the hose to reach each wheel.

And why do I need 80psi in my new tires, because the shop I was at to get the new tires only put 50psi in them, answers the reason why truck handles like a caddy with marshmallows for tires. Thats a whole other rant.

back to the garage, I have air pressure, I get my new air chuck with a cool gauge and walk over to my truck and un screw the cap, the wind was so bad it blew it out of site as soon as the threads separated. now I am smoking pist off. I go to hook up the chuck to the valve and it wont fit cause its to big to fit on the valve that is inside the rims hole. (4x4 valves are not long due to them getting damaged in off road situations )

I have no way to get air in my new tires, the compressor works now after I spend 30 minutes jogging around the garages to reset the breaker.

I look around to see if anyone saw me or heard me , I must have looked possessed when I threw the hose and chuck back in to the garage and unplugged the hose and power cord to the compressor and rolled it back into the corner all while cursing up a storm, wind blowing my unzipped hoodie into the side of my face and then realizing, the wings are coming in full force.

I jumped in my truck and flew around the corner to my apt and made a mad dash to the bathroom.

alls good..

Decided to check the trailer wiring and hook it up to the truck, sure enough nothing no juice, check the ground its ok, check the harness to the plug truck side, its hanging halfway out, I plug that it and I get all the lights but the tail lights, there the long strip kind with leds in them, and they dont work at all.

I go grab my 19.2volt drill with a phillips bit to un mount the lights, the battery is dead, put it on the charger, its not working. those items became airborne with such velocity, it would have solved the N Korea drama going on right now. I go to sears and explain the recently purchased batt and charger are no longer working and the guy just swapped it out for a new one, totally shocked me, I was like thank you for the great customer service. He said "Sir when you walked in here you looked like you had just murdered someone and were looking for more" I said wow sorry didn't mean to look so evil. but thanks for solving my problem of many this morning.
back home with the working drill I discover it appears the snow melting from the roof of the trailer made its way into the housing, that is supposed to be sealed, and corroded both strips...so no trailer lights. ordered some on the www and there gonna be here today.

The only cool thing that happened Sunday was the new charger and batt.
cleaned the garage and realized I had 60 gallons of garbage in there.

went back home, made dinner and watched walking dead and then vikings.

GF came home late and she was happy I cleaned the sink, did dishes, laundry for the week, cleaned the cat litter boxes and installed a wall mounted dvd holder in the living room. she asked when did you do all of this. and I said Saturday, then she said oh so you just hung around today and did nothing....I said yep, nothing happend today

WOW now that was a weekend. Is there anything you can do to get that air compressor working better for you?

I can try using a real extension cord, not the walmart special to have less resistance to the outlet, the garages only provide 15amps, this takes 14.5 to run, probably 18-20 to kick on with burst.

I could try to tap into the power in the pics I am providing.

had the same problem with a welder. I keep breaking 15-20 amp breakers. I switched the end of the cord and ran it into the dryer plug. This worked when I was in the basement but as soon as I had to bring it outside problem. I tried to buy 15ft of 8 gauge and use that but it wouldnt deliver the load.

You shouldnt be running any motor powered tools with an extension cord and in the case of the compressor ,run another length of hose .It probably tells you that in the manual .
