Hey guys. I have been visiting this website for a while, and must admit it is pretty cool. Every day for 24 hours they give away (for free) a licensed computer program that would normally cost. Sometimes they are good, sometimes not, but always free! Check it out here.
BTW, Todays give away is a web editor. Looks to be pretty cool if you need one.

Hi Brandon,

That is very interesting. What stood out so far as the best item you got from there?

I do photography as a hobby and have picked up a couple different photo editors, and also some good slideshow programs and such. Also, often they have some good dvd rippers.

Oh that is neat!

Can you show us any of your favorite photos and why you like them so much? How did you get interested in that? What kind of camera do you use?

Sure. Here are some that I like. I dont consider myself a professional. Sometimes I get nice compliments, and sometimes I don't, but I do it for myself and thats all. Sometimes people ask me to shoot their weddings and special occasions and such, and I usually do it for free.
I mostly use my 35mm Canon AE-1 for most of my pictures. I think it is funner to use film, and your pictures have something that you just cant quite capture with digital. Don't get me wrong, digital is great, and I use a Canon SLR digital too.
Here are a couple of film shots:
This first one was taken in the dark (even though it looks like dusk, it was taken at 10:00 pm). I used a 30 second shutter to gather all the light. You can see some stars in the sky, and the streaks of light on the small bridge in the distance are headlights.

This one is of the Sundial Bridge in my home town. From where I am standing, the camera is pointed straight up, and it is 217 ft. to the tip of the support from the camera lens.

Here is a picture I took of my daughter while she was shooting for her art fair. She won 1st place for the picture that you see her taking in this picture.

Here are some digital pictures:
This is a pretty Sunrise over the foothills of Mt. Lassen which is about an hour from my home.

And one more of the Sundial bridge. Here you can see the support that I mentioned earlier that is 217 ft. to the tip.

Hope you like 'em.

I like them a lot! Very nice work.

I do miss taking photos with film and doing neat experiments with a long exposure. I try it with digital cameras but it's never quite the same. It was always magical to me, waiting to get the film developed to see how they would turn out!

Have you ever thought of harnessing your interest in photography to bring more attention to you and your lawn care business?

If I had these two interests I would contact my local library and see if they would let me put on display these photos. Then I would put the photos up on your lawn care business website. I would make a link to explain the photos and show how it is one of your interests. Then you could send out press releases to the local paper about your presentation at the library and how "Local Landscaper shows off his photo collection." Build up the landscaper part to bring people to your lawn care website.

You could also every once in a while maybe help someone out by doing the photos for free for a wedding for a local resident that has been hard on their luck. You could really become a local hero for doing such good deeds.

Or, maybe have something set up where you could do holiday family portraits for free for your customers? That could really help you build up customer loyalty!

What's your take on this? Do you have some ideas on how you could take this further?

Those are some great ideas. I would like to do something like that. I think you are right on track with using it to bring me some attention. My problem is that I don't think my photography is good enough to put on display. I do it mostly for myself and not many people have seen it, so I dont really have the feedback to make me feel confident about it.
I will think about this and let you know what I decide to do. If you have any more ideas, I would like to hear them.

Brandon,

Here is my take. Your photos are very good. This is something you can do.

Look at me, I mean what the heck do I know about anything? Nothing! Yet I decide to put myself out there and make these gopherhaul videos and run this forum.

I figured doing this would be offering something where there was nothing and I learn as I go.

Why can't you do the same thing? Just do it and learn as you go.

Why wait? Wait for what? To get better? Well how much better? When will that be?

Why not just do it now and get better as you get better and that's that?

Point well made. I guess you are absolutely correct. I will start making some sort of plan and go for it. Thanks for the motivation.
