Default does anyone here use twitter or google adwords?

i was curious as to if anyone here uses twitter for their business and how it compares to facebook.
is it more of the same or is there distinct advantages with each one.

also, does anyone use the google adwords advertising?

i was gonna sign up for it because there are a couple guys here locally that use it and everywhere i go their ads pop up on my screen, even here.

seems like a pretty effective tool.

I use adwords and bing. I don't use Facebook, yet. I plan on getting on there soon to try them. I like how I can target my area. It is very nice.

what kind of budget do you have for your adwords and do you find that you have to constantly raise your budget or is it pretty consistent?

we just set up facebook, twitter, linked in, and google + they are all free and you can configure one of them to update the others with a little work and the customer can pick how they get updates.

i currently have the google+ and the facebook as well as made a few youtube vids and that has done a good job so far, especially considering what i have into it which is zero.

i been commercial for quite a few years now and i am trying to get back into the high end residential and i bought some extra equipment over the winter for a residential crew and i want to get the biggest bang that i can to get that off the ground as quickly as possible.

i have not had to do much marketing the last 8 years because of the type of work i did and how i got it through management co's but last year i started some traditional marketing in the beginning of the year and kept it going through out the year to get things going and it failed miserably and the cost was astronomical.
what i did last year worked very well back in the day when i started out in the 90's but today traditional means of marketing is a complete waste of time and money.

i started getting with the program on how to do these things today back in early January and i can not believe how well it has worked so far.

i eliminated all my print ads and the only thing left of what i would consider "traditional marketing" is my listing in the phone book which i will keep and everything else is now online and the last snowstorm we got on friday swamped me with phone calls and each and every person that called said they got my info online.

normally this time of year most of us don't get many calls except for something like plowing but i don't ever recall the amount of calls i got from that storm ever happening before in 23 years in business as well as i got about 10 times the calls in one day then i did last year for he whole year from my print ads.

i been scratching my head the last couple of years wondering what it was that i was doing wrong and now i know.
the saddest part is that it has been there waiting for me the whole time.

That is great news. Are you track which online marketing is working? Do you attribute it more to adwords than facebook, or the videos you made?

at this point in time being it has only been a month and a half i would say it is a accumulative effect of all of the things i have been using.

i have watched over the last month after i added all these things and updated my information my listings going from the 3rd page to the first and it just boggles my mind and i have not even got to the meat on the bone of all the things i am working on implementing.

i would be the first to say that being in my mid 40's and being in business for 23 years that i was old school and did not buy into the " modern way " of doing things.
it was not that i was against it or felt it was not effective but after your business has grown over the course of 23 years and you have success you feel as if " what can this really do for me " and " do i really need to bother " and i am very happy to eat crow and admit how wrong i was.

on my google places account i can go on and view my dashboard and see all the hits listed by category and this past snow storm i had 162 hits and inquiries into my services for snow removal and had at least 40 calls for plowing.
i will say that i am not so naive to think i am so special because with this storm i am sure many companies got a lot of calls but what stands out for me is that at the moment i have gave up on 99% of my print ads and the only way they could have found out about me was through a online search as well as i can only recall one other time that i had that many calls in one storm and the last time was back in 97 i believe.

i still have a ways to go to get the bugs out and take full advantage of it but for what i have into it thus far and what i have seen out of it really has me motivated to push it to the limit.
after 23 years it is almost like a rebirth and gives me a new way of connecting to people and as i said before the saddest part is it has been here the whole time but i failed to take advantage of it.

Not sure if this will help you out or not, but here it goes....

Years ago I ran an online tropical fish business. I sold tropical fish and food on the internet. It wasn't anything small by any means. I was doing runs to the airport to pick fish up from Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and various breeding farms around the US. I shipped fish to nearly every state in the US and a few places in Canada.

I had to use online advertising, thats the only way it worked. I had to get my name out there. I had facebook, twitter, facebook ad's, youtube, google ad's and a few more.

Facebook and twitter I considered them the same. You can link your twitter to your facebook, which made it easy. Whatever I said on facebook would go to my twitter. This method was decent, but took up time trying to market to people. Some people think your spam and don't want to associate with you. Theres a large amount of spam going around on both of these. I'd say over time, it would be a useful tool, just keep updating it and always looking for new clients. If it's free, it wouldn't hurt to try it.

Facebook ad's....I pulled the plug on that before the big motor companies did the same. It generated NOTHING for me. Waste of $$$.

Google ad's was the best. I did a set daily budget. The CPC (cost per click) I found to be a waste. Obviously the more you pay the better placement you get. My competitors could sit there and click away driving my bill up. This way no one knows my daily budget but me. You can run your ad's at certain times, and market to a specific area. You can also look at a report to find out when the most activity is going on. Depending on the size of your area, between $5 and $20 a day should work. No need to keep it up all the time 24/7....run it a few weeks and stop a few weeks.

I didn't use youtube, but my customers did. I would give out sample bags of fish foods to try, and in return my customers would make youtube videos reviewing the product. This was a great/fast way to get my name out there. It worked out really well. Not to mention, the customers all speak for themselves.

With all the online advertising now, you can really get your name out there fast. As longas you maintain your facebook and are constantly networking, it will do great for you.
