The company I worked for in Highschool did a tree stand and we would offer delivery service too. I made alot of money in tips.

I have yet to see anyone on here talk about this or try it. How are you thinking this would work? Would the customer pick the tree out somewhere and you would deliver it or would they just order one from you and you would bring one over?

I thought of just delivery. Unless I can somehow talk to a local guy to get discounted tree's to buy and sell.

The easiest way I thought to do it is they buy from me and I go get the tree and deliver it. I have a clause of no refunds...I think we all know how picky some people can get. But I won't drop off any "charlie brown" tree's either. My money would be made in the delivery fee.

Is it a big money maker? I doubt it. But it'll give me something to do and still advertise my lawn business. I don't want to pay for advertising for it, so I decided to add it to my lawn service site, use facebook, and craigslist. No sense to pay in advertising since I have no clue how it'll turn out.

Cashin- how did he run his operation?

We would order our trees from a wholesaler in late spring. we rented space form a local dunkin doughnuts and set up a little tree stand. We probably sold abour 200 trees. We had to get a few dif. permits to sell the trees. You would be hard pressed to find some one still selling wholesale trees.

Ah I see. I guess I'll try the delivery and see how it goes. I don't want to order any because it could be a big waste of money. The only other company that does it by me owns an actual tree farm. It should be interesting. I'll post more on how it goes.

What is your view on why there is a lack of people selling wholesale trees?

Wholesalers take orders in the spring, not 4 weekes before you start selling the trees. Im sure the tree farms start harvesting in late Oct.

So I guess it's a lot tougher to plan out how many trees you will need to sell or if you are even going to sell tress unless you have had a track record of successful years of selling trees.
