Lawn care business tips
looks clean for the year. Have you owned a dump before? is it gas or diesel? I think my dump truck was my best buy.

Diesel engines only need oil changed
dumping is fun but grease the fittings on the bed and be careful not to put it up to hi. You may want to bring a "come a long" if it gets stuck up

diesel engines need more then oil changes and when they break they will cost you so much to fix you will wish your mother never met your father.

plus diesel fuel is way more money then gas.

when i started out in business back in the early 90's diesel was half the cost of gas and just in fuel savings would justify buying one and the purchase price was not too much more then a gas engine.

today he diesel option is almost a 5 k difference plus the fuel cost more and the newer engines require more maintenance.
i would not bother buying a older truck with a diesel because most guys don't maintain them properly and they can be a money pit.

i have trucks with both engines and they all have their pro's and con's but diesels don't have the benefits like they did back in the day and they really excel and benefit the buyer in the big trucks like a F450 or bigger type of truck.

by the way, to the OP, nice old ford you got there, that was when they still made a real truck give it what it needs and it will take care of you.
good luck with it and it will help you biz out big time.

greasing it this morning from top to bottom front to back and have run the bed all the way up and down with no issues as of yet but come a long is a good idea just in case thanks

I like the old ford body style 80- 86 I believe. The price was good on it so even if i have to replace an engine or tranny down the line I will still be in good shape on it

DPLD I get what your saying about 2007 and newer diesels with after burners and cats But late 90's diesels are great.
the cost of fuel is about 10% more $3.50 gas $3.80 diesel and diesel gets better mpg

for me it saves money
My old gas truck got towing around town 8mpg, My new truck gets 12mpg
GAS 10,000 miles per year / 8 = 1250 gallons * $3.50 = $4375
DIESEL 10,000 / 12 = 833 * $3.80 = $3166
So if the diesel costs more to fix I have $1209 to work with

Don't get me wrong if the right gas truck came a long I would buy it!!
