The winter months are coming, well for some of us it is. Just wondering what do you guys do with your equipment when you are not using it during the down time? Do you start them up at least once a week or what? I would like to know what everyone does on this. Thanks.

I totally agree I actually use sta-bil all year long in everything but the truck, It may be wishful thinking on my part but it seems that equipment lasts longer and runs better......Don't forget to blow out the powerwashers also I didn't last winter but I definately will remember to do it this year with my NEW one

Yikes! What happened to that? Did the tubes/hoses freeze over?

Down Time? Here I mow 12 months of the year, there is no down time. I also offer free snow removals to all my customers (located in west central florida) this gets quite a chuckle when people read the ad

I know that most say to "run it dry", but I'm not convinced that this removes ALL the gas, and as I understand it, it's not the gas itself that destroys everything - it's the ethanol.

I couldn't say if the following is a good thing to do or not, but it's what I did last season when I put things into storage...

I ran each "dry", then I added a little ethanol-free canned fuel and let each piece of equipment run for 15-20 minutes. Then I put them away.

Apparently ( according to the dealer ) there was water inside the pump and lines that froze and cracked the pump housing ?

When I started it in the spring for the first time I had water flying everywhere..

Would you also disconnect the battery from mower or whatever else you are using?

I been running dry then putting a spoon of oil in its place. Just so the seals dont dry out.

I use to use stabil but I had to dump several gallons of gas and clean a bunch of carbs. That was the last time I used stabil.

I thought of the ethanol free cans that hedge mentioned. It would be a lot cheaper if you found a ethanol free gas station.
