Default Oil & Gas mixing question

Hi Guys,
I just purchased a string trimmer that say a mix of 40-1 is needed, I also have a blower that uses a 50-1 mix..My question is if I mistake cans and use the wrong mix in either will it be the end of that machine I'm thinking that its better to be on the high side of the mix to be safe.
Thanks in advance and please excuse my ignorance on these matters...

Personally, I would just run the 50-1 mix in both. It will just cause it to smoke a little if anything. I always run mine a tad richer and have had no problems doing so for many years now.

^^^

That's what I had been told.

I have a craftsman handheld blower and a hedge trimmer that are 40:1 and all my commercial equipment is 50:1, so I just started running 50:1 in everything.
No issues in a year of use like that and no real smoke issues.

Default Thanks for your replies

Id like to Thank everyone for their opinons on this, I figured it would be better using the higher mix. It's better to be safe than sorry right?

You do know that 50-1 would have less oil in it than 40-1 so it will smoke less .....right ? Anyways with modern oils there should not be a problem running 50-1 in pretty much anything .

Yeah, the big number is the quantity of gasoline, the small number is the quantity of oil.

it partly depends on your oil mixes, in the higher quality stuff the oil is a delivery method not the main lubricant. However 40:1 is the higher oil ratio.

For every 5 liters of gasoline, put in 20ml of oil.
