Hello eveyone my name is Ryan Born co owner of Born lawn care and snowplowing in upstate NY.My. brother and i started our company in july and have been all over this web site and taking the lawn care school. We started with a weekly mowing with no contract and now have 2 weekly accounts and a bi-weekly mowing accounts we have had a few estimates for some jobs but no leads except a few shrub trimming jobs

mainly flyers and facebook with no results so far the jobs are family and or people we know the thing is we havent been consistant with flyers as we have only passed out around 250 or so and my self and brother have not left our full time jobs yet as we have families and dont want to dump all of our eggs in a basket our company phone has not rang once i will be buying some of your books to help out hopefully iits tough competition in our area and snow plowing plays a major factor for companies here

how long is an estimate usally good for 7, 30 or 45 days

Flyers have done crap for me. I handed out 800 a few months ago, and got 1 phone call. Now is the perfect time for fall clean ups, and tell the customers what else you offer when you do the clean ups. Doing aeration, leaf removal, dethatching, plowing, salting walkways...anything you can think of will at least get your foot in the door for mowing. Good luck!

I have been doing 14 days and i think that is to long (to much can change in that time)

Do you have a website and if so how is it ranked with google? ipage.com is very cheap & good

Thanks for insight we do not have web site running yet in process now we have a one ton pick up with enclosed trailer no lettering yet but we do have company shirts with neat appearance business cards and a face book page we just landed two rototilling jobs and our third shrub trimming job. We offer mowing plowing spring/fall cleanups gutter cleaning and mulching decks and fences i used to frame houses

Depends on what you want.

During the spring, I handout estimates that expire within a couple of weeks, to get a nice rush of clients during the beginning of the season.

It's ok to have an estimate expire at the end of every season, but I wouldn't advise having an estimate that NEVER expires as you may want to increase prices next year.

If you send out an estimate that never expires, you can face many problems. Keep all estimates no longer than a year, and before the beginning of a new year (taxes can also change everything).

I have cheap lettering on my truck & trailer and it gets us work ALL the time. I all way ask how they heard about us.
