Google should help. I would pick up more services. Theres a ton of competition for mowing and its lower profits then others services such as pressure washing or gutter cleaning. A lot of homeowners are cutting back on their budgets and fertilizer is one to go. Its also easy for them to do unless they have a specific problem. How about offering a lawn analysis for $30? So the DIY people could fix it themselves. All youll be doing is offering advice. I think the big difference is the timing. The economy was in better shape then and you were offering a more general service.

Lawn care business tips

the bad timing back in 2004 was i didn't have a wife who worked bringing in a second income like i do now, so the night job and lawn biz got to where i had to pick one of the other and had to go where the money was. 8 years later.... stuck on the night shift, i want to work outside doing what i enjoy.. but i don't want to work for somebody anymore. if i could bring in 1,000 a month after expenses i'd be able to focus on just the business and growing it. seems like a small amount.. even in this economy. fert and weed control apps are still pretty big here in north metro atlanta, i'm seeing people with lawn app companys in many different income brackets. i did alot of driving around, i talked to many people trying to get an idea of prices, and what they liked or didn't like about there service.. after about 7 months of that (i was out of work with an injury) i got the confidence to pull the trigger on this thing. now i'm focused on aeration and overseeding ad campaign, and hoping mabee i can pick up some full program sales from some of those jobs.. i've got a good offer that i think will land me a few jobs, i have a few lined up already. this spring i'm gonna work on picking up mowing accounts, and try to upsell them lawn apps at a discount with that service.. even tho mowing isn't as profitable, its more money per month i guess... something to supplement the income until i get more spraying accounts.. i tried pressure washing my house a few weekends ago.. first time.. thats something i need to practice on.. gutter cleaning, i won't even get on a ladder to do my own...
