I carry my phone because I don't want to miss inportant calls, but when I work I don't just get it out and start playing with it, and It really pisses me off when I see kids doing that when they are doing a job and especially driving!

i leave my phone in the truck and if someone calls me and it is that important they can leave a message.
i do check it from time to time and i never really understood the important call thing to where i need to carry it at all times.

I do the same thing or call back at the end of the day. I had a few customers that were mad that I didnt pick up when they called. They dont get we operate heavy loud machinery?

i tell all my clients when they hire me that i am a working boss and i am on every job at all times and if they need to contact me to leave a message because calling me 30 times a hour is not gonna get me to respond any sooner.
i don't screen calls and if you call me and i don't answer then it is a clear indication that i am working.

i had one customer tell me that they think that is unprofessional and i said it is not fair to whomever i am working for that is paying me good money to work while i sit on the phone and chit chat all day long and how would you feel to see me on the phone while you are paying me to work.
the customer looked at me and said, you got a good point.

Lot of good stuff here about phones, employees, and smoking. I have lost a few jobs due to having my phone in the truck but I sometimes think that they would of been a pain in my neck anyway if that cannot wait for me to get back with them. I check my phone after each job or so it is never over an hour before they hear from me. One of the best employees I have had outside my wife and daughter was a man who is 61 years old. He did not care a thing about his phone and he liked to work. Lost him due to a knee issue that he had before working for me. Guess I need to go and look for some older folks.

I have a good worker, hes always on time and works hard. the only time hes on the phone is if he has to call his wife. other than that, hes great!

i always leave the phone in the truck. I don't like putting a wet smelly phone up to my face, but then again, a good smell of @$$ can wake you up! ive had potential customers call, some call 3 or 4 times in the course of an hour. those to me are NOT worth it. they are the complaining type that I'd much rather leave for someone else.

I love the guys that say they fix all their equipment and can work on anything. Then you put one in their hands and they cant start it.

I have been leaving my phone in the truck lately for a few reasons. The other day it fell out of my pocket when mowing, luckily it was still laying on the mower. Secondly, my fiance keeps calling me to ask me to stupid questions lol!, so I just leave it in the truck so I can get my work done. I like to listen to music every once and a while though.

funny you say that. I always have my folks pick up trash before mowing. The other day i was going at my mowing and saw what I thought was a dollar in the grass. My front deck wheel went across before I could pull back. I just missed cutting up a $20.00 bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes it pays to watch what your doing.
