This is a great article. It talks about how a lawn care business owner who needed a winter income source, found it with selling wood!

What do you think of this? Would you like to do this?

Firewood dealer's business thriving this year - Jeff Thiele of Benton has sold 100 cords of firewood already this fall, compared to his total seasonal sales of 25 cords last year. A cord of wood is defined as four feet tall, four feet wide and eight feet long with a total of about 85 cubic feet of wood because of air space between the pieces.

Thiele once had a lawn mowing contract at Rend Lake, and when that expired, he started a commercial lawn mowing operation. Since that business was seasonal, he tried to find something to do during the winter months, and he decided on firewood.

With oil at an all time high, $90+ per barrel, firewood will become very much in demand again. At least in this neck of the woods, I predict seasoned split wood will be going for close to $250 per cord.

I've been thinking about leasing some land in order to have a place to cut, split, and store wood for next year. I'm not too crazy about how labor intensive it is, but for that kind of money....

Around here a cord of dry oak is going for $299. Hard work, but can be worth it if you just need some income.

One of my friends just got a wood burning stove that runs on wood pellets!

I wonder if this is gonna be a big thing in the future.

Nice thing about wood pellets is the abilty to adjust the rate of feed and temp control. The stuff burns quite well leaving little ash. Storing the bags is lots easier and cleaner as well.

Found a video on a firewood processor called the Chomper. *All self contained and requires only one person to run it.

http://www.chomper.net/video.html

This will lead you to a page where you can choose your player and connection speed.
