Default New Phone - WOW!

I just upgraded from an HTC Hero to a Samsung Galaxy S II

My old phone...

This Samsung is astounding. Two years ago I went from a basic Tracfone that I only had for emergencies to the Hero and I was amazed. THIS thing makes the 2 year old Hero look like a toy. The improvements are incredible.

4G
1.2 GHz dual core processor
Voice control
SWYPE Texting
Microsoft® Office Compatible
8.0 MP camera 4x zoom
Continuous Usage Time: up to 8.7 hours
16GB Internal Memory
External Memory: Supports up to 32GB microSD™ card
And all sorts of other features I can't recall/don't understand

Technology is amazing.

I'm almost afraid to ask but what is the monthly service charge?

It's the 8.7 hours that gets me. I had a smart phone and I just left it in the truck because it had to be on the charger all the time. On the other hand my regular cell phone can go about 2 weeks between charges.

I do miss my radar app for sizing up rain storms though.

I dunno for sure. My accountant just went to bed, so I'll ask her tomorrow since I can't seem to locate the monthly statement right now.

It's not cheap, but Sprint was the least expensive carrier we could find, so that's who we went with when we initially signed up 2 years ago. With the "family plan" additional plans are discounted (wife and I each have a phone), so it's less than if we had separate contracts.
It's time to renew and my wife broke her phone last week, so we went to the Sprint store to see what made the most sense - replace her phone under the insurance replacement plan, or upgrade to a new phone entirely.
The replacement would have cost the $100 deductible. A NEW, upgraded phone was $100. Pretty much a no-brainer.

We considered dropping hers to a plan without internet, as she uses it mainly for texting, but it would have only saved us about $10/mo.

I started researching phones and decided to upgrade mine too since I find it VERY useful for business. I was going to pick from the "$99" options, but this one just amazed me so much, I let my wife talk me into it as a "business expense". (Twist my arm) It was $199.

Oh, and apparently when you upgrade with Sprint, they add $10 to your monthly bill. They also offer a AAA discount, so that brought it back down to close to what we were paying previously.

Also, I found out after the fact that if we had upgraded at Radio Shack (where we made our initial purchase 2 yrs ago) I could have gotten $30 trade in on my old phone (Sprint only gave me $10) and my wife's $99 phone was on sale for $50. Oh well.

Yeah. My OLD Tracfone would hold a charge forever. Smart phones eat up batteries pretty much across the board due to all the things they do - even when it's not visibly "doing" anything.

My HERO would last 8 hours, but that was only if I used the phone and made sure to kill any apps to avoid battery drain. If I used the internet or GPS (both huge battery drains), I wouldn't make it through the day. It drove me nuts.

So far, this Galaxy is impressing me with the battery life. I realize that the ratings given are for "minimal use", but it hasn't even gotten to 50% yet in a day. That makes me happy, and it's one of the reasons I chose this phone.

Weather apps are awesome...

This app is AWESOME!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ainydays&hl=en

It's fast and is exactly what I like to see. I can see if a storm is coming or breaking up. It's very helpful for our business.

Thanks. I'll download that and give it a try.

I haven't used the Weather Channel app on my new phone, but it (radar map) gave me trouble constantly on my previous phone.

And what happened to the Android market? Freaking Google took over, I see. Pretty soon we're going to be buying milk, bread, and gasoline via Google - they are taking over everything.

my iphones get about three days of battery life ,and I think that is short!I am unfortunately going to find something else as I can no longer hear the ringer well enough [my hearing is bad,not the phones fault] .
