I had found in the obituaries, and there was a guestbook for my client for friends and family to write.

I had wrote;

How does that sound to you guys?

How about "I am truly thankful for having known him"?
(I'd leave out the last part where it sounds like you wanted to have his babies.

The man was 82 years old, looked like a classic James Bond. Always maintained his gardens and whatnot. Great guy.
