Default Allergies

Does anyone have issues with allergies while cutting? If so what do you do to combat it? I have been taking alegra and it seems to help but im still left sneezing my head off as im driving away. Any advice would be helpful.

Lawn care business tips
Whatever you take, make sure it's non drowsy!

Other than Alegra, we have;
Claritin, Reactine, and Benadryl.

I suggest talking with a pharmacist to find out which one will work best for you.

Nothing is worse than having allergies while trying to work, man that sucks! Good luck!!!

I agree with willshome. I use Non-Drowsy Claritin. It works great on me but it doesn't for my wife. It takes all the snotty, sneezing, watery eyes and headaches away and pretty much keeps them at bay for a good 12 hours or so.

Funny. I just sneezed before hitting "post reply".

I have seasonal allergies. I've been tested and I'm allergic to a lot of things - mainly tree pollen and grass. Go figure.

I don't get contact reactions to anything but juniper and poison ivy.

I go for injections every 3 weeks. I take Clairtin and I'm supposed to take Singulair and a nasal spray - Flonase, but those two are prescription and cost more since I don't have insurance that covers them, so I haven't been taking them.

Overall, I do OK, but there is ONE lawn that I cut that KILLS me in the spring.
I think it's a specific tree pollen - my eyes water like crazy and I sneeze while I'm there and once I leave, it isn't an issue.

thats what i do, i use the 3M disposable masks with the breather exhale valve to keep them from getting all steamed up.

i usually get a day out of each mask and it makes the world of difference as well as mostly eliminates the need for allergy meds.

i also flush out the sinuses with a saline nasal mist twice a day as well, it can be a bit nasty but it works well.
the allegry meds can screw up your kidneys as they did mine as well as you build up a tolerence to them and they become less effective over time.

the best bet is to prevent the larger amounts of crap from getting in your system as well as flush out the little that does get in you.

i got no problems riding around on the mower wearing a mask looking like i am in asia avoiding the bird flu.

Do you find the allergies effect you only certain times of the year or does it have a daily effect on you because you are breathing all those fine particles?

Typically they start getting to me around late June early July, and only on hotter days (80's-90's) but in my area we didn't have much of a winter so like workformyself said the pollen season started early. On a good note since Ive started taken this Allegra my symptoms have drastically reduced there's only be a couple yards that have caused me to start sneezing and stuff but it only lasts for about ten minutes or so after i leave.
