I got a referral call from a potential customer last week. I went to look at the property. It's completely enclosed by 15' shrubbery except for an entry way that would require me using the neighbor's driveway. I called back to give my estimate but before I did I asked if the neighbor allowed me to use his driveway to get into her yard. She said "no, he's really funny about that." So, I thanked her for the opportunity and said I couldn't accept the work. She protested and asked if I could lift my mower over the one spot by the retaining wall by her driveway. "No, sorry. My mower weighs 700 lbs." Finally, she relented and asked what my estimate was anyway. I told her $33. That sent her over the top. She went bananas. "IT ONLY TAKES ABOUT HALF AN HOUR TO MOW. THAT'S CRAZY! THAT'S NOT A FAIR PRICE AT ALL!" But, lady. I'm not taking the job anyway. I could have said $10000 or $1 for the same end result. Buh?

Tough lady, Dont want the job anyhow. I got one today, only wants to have enough service 'to keep the cops off my *** about the grass height.' I said what grass your yard is nothing but dirt. I am sorry but I cannot do this yard, as it would destroy my blades. Then he started complaining about MY attitude.

people who do not want to pay for the maintenance of a property should keep the properties as simple as possible or should do it themselves.

It's very common around here. People hate neighbors but still decide to live in an area where there are 2" between houses so they put up fences and shrub lines and make it impossible to maintain the lawn. Not only is the entire lawn shaded you also can't get in to mow except with a weed whacker. Then they want to pay $5 for a mowing because their stupid little neighbor kids did it for $5 25 years ago.
