Need opinions on Walker mower price
|
|
I am looking at a used Walker mower. Its now 3 years old.
425 hours
MTL EFI 31hp water cooled
headlights
foot rests
high dump
very clean...infact it looks almost brand new
speed up kit
extras to me would be a rear deflector, 2 sets of blades, oil and air filter and a set of belt
He is asking 11,500 and is pretty firm
He has a JRKO dethatcher for it and I was thinking of asking "again for him to include it. The first time I asked he said no
Is this a good price? It runs very nice too

I do not know, I do know that my 60" 29hp Kawi Toro Zmaster brand new with bagger system was 12k. Hopefully that helps.

In our area, North Central Oklahoma, that would be a good price if he threw in the attachment. If no attachment it might be high but it is a good machine and I'm sure you would be pleased with it. The high lift dump is worth $3000 and it never loses it's value.

i can tell you from experience because i have owned 10 walkers over the years that at that price you will be better off buying new.
it is allready past waranty and at the 3 year mark it will be due for work on the hydros in the near future.
i will also add that by buying new you will only add at most about 1,500 dollars to the cost and you will have full warranty protection and the owners at walker are very good people and if you bought the machine new and had issues shortly after the warranty expireing they would more then likely help you out.
also the last several years walker has been having some issues with the hydros and allthough they would not warrant not buying a walker mower it should definitly deter you from buying a used walker mower especially if it is out of warranty which from the sounds of it the machine you are buying definitly is.
if it is a EFI motor i would steer clear of buying it, not because it is a bad motor but the electronics can not take the heat that builds up inside the engine compartment.
the only problem with the mowers design is the engine is situated right in the middle of everything and the heat causes issues with certain electronic parts most notably on the EFI motors and the exmark navigator is having the same issues so it is not only the walkers having this problem.
walkers are great mowers and i will always have a couple in my fleet but like any peice of equipment they have their specific applications and they are not the ideal mower when you don't need to bag because the blower system runs full time whether you want it or not and they to need to be replaced periodicly as well.
they are a little slower then say a ZTR mower and i myself have both and each mower has its place in my business as well as each mower has distinct advantages but at the same time depending on what you are cutting they are not equal.
hope that helps and for the record if you like walker mowers and feel it is a good fit for your business and you are gonna spend $11,500.00 you might as well go for the new one.
i realize the one you are looking at has the high dump and i have one of those and it is a 3,000.00 option so if you were to buy new you would probably be looking at around 16,000.00.
the high dump is nice but for the money it is not really worth it and i probably would not ever purchase that option again.

Thanks
I just wanted to thank both of you for the reply's. There was helpful information in both and wanted to thank you for your time and effort. As it turns out, after discussing it with my wife, we decided to go new.
Thanks Again

I think you will find a lot of other companies having problem soon with hydro units as I do not think the integrated drives will hold up as well for commercial use. Walker, and Grasshopper just showed up first as they have engine temp problems as well helping heat up and distroy the hydros faster.

I have never sold an EFI that did not end up with fuel pump and ground issues. I find that the repairs cost more then the fuel savings. I do hope they work all of the bugs out soon. I know a lot of it is the users keep running them out of gas but the fuel pumps are way to high.

i forgot to mention if you buy a walker and you want the thatcher attachment get the one for the walker made by walker.
it is a nice slick set up that does not require tools and the jrco is a nice unit and i have two for my exmarks but i use the walker version for my walker mowers because it is less bulky and for a walker mower it is the best option.

opinions of Walker Mowers
Well I have been in the business for 8 years now and have used everything from a Craftsman mower when I started out to a Dixie Chopper, Hustler, SCAG & Badboy etc. I purchased a Walker GHS 26hp efi with a power dump in 2009 with 195 hours on it for $7000.00 and up until last year no problems. Only then did I have to replace the starter. The mower now has almost 800 hours on it. We also recently purchased last season 2 Super Bee models with the 52" mulching decks. One is a 26hp efi and the other is the new Yanmar Diesel engine. These machine are fantastic and put one beautiful cut on a lawn. We run Walker Brand mowers exclusively now and could not be happier. I would say the high dump add on is worth about $2500.00. A new 26hp efi is approx $13,500.00 give or take. I would call a dealer and see how much a new one goes for with the options then deduct for the hours.
good luck
Robert
