Zoysia Removal for Landscape Job

I am doing a landscape job for a family here in town. They want some new raised beds throughout there front yard. They have Zoysia grass and want the grass lifted and moved to the back yard. What is the best way to go about this? Just a square point shovel? How deep should it be dug? Thank you in advance!

How big of an area are you going to be making these beds? Can you use a sod cutter to remove the grass where you want the beds?

I'm with steve, rent a sod cutter unless it's a very small job.

I am doing 3 beds that are roughly 10'x10'

THe nearest rental company to me is 85 miles and I can not see that worth while.

Then take your edger, cut it out in manageable pieces and dig out with your shovel. Get as much of the root base as possible. Once transplanted, water down and tell the homeowner to continue to water until it has taken root.
