New Hire Rate of Pay

I'm looking at hiring a Foreman to run my mowing crew. My plan is to spend more time with hardscape and landscape lighting this year. Just trying to build the business. So here is my question: "What rate of pay are you offering?" Are you offering any other types of benefits with your new hires? I know the scale will be different depending on geography but lets see what's going on out there! I'm thinking around $15 an hour, but have a feeling it will be more like $18??

I'm thinking around $15 an hour, but have a feeling it will be more like $18?? i would hire him on a one month trial basis at 15.00 per hour and after that month if he is working out and wants to stay you can give him a bump in pay and keep him long term. this way he can prove he is willing to let his work do the talking and will show a better comittment from him as well as keeps you from getting hamstrung long term by a bad hire.

I would tell him that the pay scale for that position is 15 to 18 dollars per hour,

You will hire him for 15, and evaluate his job performance at 30 days, 60 days 90 days, 180 days, and 1 year. Each of these evaluations must be in writing! If you feel he deserves a raise then give him the raise.

Each evaluation should be associated with a rate ie 30 days, 15.50 to 1 year at 18. then yearly evaluations with an associated raise, or added benifits etc.

Look at what major corporations are doing and follow them. (A labor attorney could help)
