Cool Hello Everyone

My name is Joey T and I just joined the gopher forum today I have a small landscaping business in Missouri.I like to to clear out Brush and high grass remove small trees around 30 feet,Stumps and unwanted weeds, bushes or trees that died.my methods are little house in the prairie but will make a great you tube video.

How I got started in this business was my wife aunt passed away and her family hired me to remove 6 bushes and mow her grass. I figured that mabee other people my need my services so thats how I got started and I really enjoyed doing this kind of work.

I discovered Gopher haul through you tube a couple of days ago and I really enjoyed the information that Steve has to offer.I can really learn a lot on the forum and on you tube. I will also share information on what I learned in business to help others avoid mistakes that I made.

Well I hope you hear from all of you soon Take care and I wish everybody hear a a great 2012 in business

JT

Cool Hello Steve

How are you doing today.I saw in your you tube videos about making sure not to under bid on a job.In my first year of business a neighbor wanted me to remove some bushes and over grown weeds and a dead tree.I looked at this job and I said I will do this for $50.I got everything done in 4 or 5 hours and he paid me and it was cool. The client only wanted me to cut the bush and leave the stumps because he he did not want to pay a lot of money to get them removed.

I look at the small bush stumps and told him I can get those out for $20 bucks thinking to myself it will only take me 1 or 2 hours to take out. What i did not realized was the huge root system this bush had and 3 weeks later beating it down with an ax using 2 come along 1 broke mauls and wedges I finally took it out.I am a man of my word and charge him $20 but it was the hardest 20 bucks that I ever made.

I learned that just because a job a look easy make sure to double check and allow that problem that might come up to get a fair price so you won't loose money on jobs

Take care steve and have a great day..

JT

WOW now that is one heck of a situation!

How many man hours did that job take in total?

If you were to do it again, what would you do differently now?

Default To answer your question

I think around 50-60 hours that was a lesson well learned.

If I was ever in the same situation again I would first see if I can do the job in a timely matter and get tools suited for the project. If I feel that I could not do the job I would get my friends that own a tree company to do it.

In some jobs I learned it is better to walk away from then to do it if you do not have the ability to do the job in a timely manner.
