Default Open trailer gate spring options cheap?

Just starting out but here is what i got. An open trailer that as all of you know will get heavier and heavier throughout the day.

Are there any home made spring ideas out there to assist with the gate going up and down much easier?

I heard a garage door spring would work but i need to see how it attaches and what to do.

Any help is appreciated.

I have a spring loaded door and love it except one of the springs broke and I have yet to find another. The manufacture that built my trailer is no longer in business. Even with one spring left, I like it better than the cable and pulley system.

i would love to craft something myself for $50 but not sure thats do able. this is an idea i have that i am sure people have perfected by now, vs buying a system for much much more.

how tall are your sides (have any pics?). Maybe mount a winch ($50 harbor frieght) mounted to the front corner of the trailer to pull it up? then maybe if a mower died on a job you could pull it up in to the trailer. just thinking

Here are the 4 pics i have. i like the idea of a winch and for $50 it solves 1 problem and MAYBE a 2nd if it were to ever come to that. . .

any disadvantages? where should i mount it? desk or make a stand for it and have something welded? man... i want to go buy a welder now haha

now you have me thinking.. your speaking of a powered winch right? not a hand crank one? how would i get enough power to it? through the plug that goes to the truck? not too sure that would be enough juice would it?

BUT if we can get past that. i could also use it to pull a small tree out of the ground if ever asked.

I would like some sort of control from the rear and front of the trailer for an up and down. that would be sweet.

you could use a spare lawnmower battery. Then if your battery ever dies you have a back up handy.

Nice dixie by the way.

i would have to charge the battery all the time then.

another idea is to run a power wire from battery of vehicle to trailer hook up and have a 2nd connector of sort for trailer lights and then a winch connection. this would work in theory.

problem is, i will be using m wifes vehicle around the neighborhood and when out of the neighborhood i will be using my dads truck. i have yet to get a hitch and light harness installed on his Izuzu Trooper and would not be able to use this "power wire" setup idea on the wifes Mazda CX9.

so i am leaning back towards the spring idea. now i just need to find the safest and cheapest way to do this.

i have 0 accounts as of right now so this is not a time sensitive thing. But i am working out my company name and within the week i would like to start handing out flyers and business cards in the neighborhood. i would be using the wifes SUV for this.

once i get things off the ground and can quit my day job, i will trade the civic in for another truck which i miss so bad. but i have to make due with what i have first.
