Default Ford truck tires!

I have a 2005 ford f250 super duty supercab long bed and need to get new tires for it. I have never bought tires before so I am new to the whole thing. What tires would best fit this vehicle? I'm completely clueless.

Need help on buying the right kind of tires!

PS: I don't want to spend more than $1,000 on a set of four tires.

Thanks!

It is all going to depend on the loads that you haul. Talk to the guys at the tire store, they have load ratings on the tires.

That's very interesting I had no idea about the weight. I thought the only thing to look for in a tire is tred. Thanks

Nooooo. Head over to tirerack.com and look at the recommendations for your year, make and model. For a 2500 rated truck you'll probably want an E weight rating.

I have Yokohama Geolanders (Set of 4: $676.00) on my truck. I recommend them.

There is no problem with going to a BIG TIRE STORE and asking them. (I prefer to avoid Discount Tire b/c of my experiences with awful customer service). NTB, firestone, goodyear stores...
These guys sell tires, not combustible engines.
Just make sure you are talking to a store manager, experienced sales rep, or mechanic thats been there a while.
From what I hear, all tires come from same 3 or 4 very large tire factories.
Brand wise, my personal preference are Coopers because they aren't name brand expensive and I have had better luck with them than the likes of BFGoodrich.

If you want to check out NTB wait for a buy 3 get 4th tire free sale as NTB FREQUENTLY puts on this promotion(seems like every other month!) NTB will fully cover the tire for $25 no questions asked. I can go slash all 4 of mine right now, take them in and get new ones.

Oh if you choose NTB, I reccomend only getting tires. their own employees like to refer to the store as
'Not The Best' - they are expensive for service & parts

I also always check out tirerack.com, always seems so cheap. but by the time you pay for freight shipping and installation the price don't look so good anymore. and they prob won't be able to be covered.
I tell ya its a real luxury to be able to swing by store and have em plug a hole in 15 mins for free, (even better is when the nail is too close to sidewall and they go "well sorry we can't plug the hole, we will have to put a new tire on"...SWEET

Thanks a lot guys... your help is much appreciated. So basicaly I should not spend more than $800.00. Also what is the typical tire size used on these trucks plus pulling a filled 6x14 enclosed trailer? Is it a 16" or anywhere in between that and a 20"? I will definitly go to the local store to buy my tires because there will probably be some sort of warranty and return policy. But maybe if I can find them for like $400 or less on craigslist I will give that a shot. Mark those tires you reccomend look very nice, how big are they?
Thanks again guys!

Look up your truck at tirerack.com and get the size you need.

Look for a local "mom and pop" tire shop. Unless you enjoy being raped, avoid NTB, or really any big tire place.

I swear that even if NTB offered "buy NONE get four FREE", I could get a better price at my local tire shop.

That said, pricing isn't as competitive as it was just a few short years ago due to the rise in manufacturing costs, and I've noticed that I don't save as much as I used to, but I still do save a lot by not getting stuff for "free".

Once you determine the exact type of tire you want/need, start making phone calls to compare prices. Note that many shops are cool with mounting tires purchased at the Tire Rack, and you can have the tires shipped directly to THEM. Just something to consider.

The standard size should be displayed on the driver door of your truck. I would base it more on if you planned on using the truck for snow removal. I would get a agressive tread and skinny tires usually have more traction. I had good luck with coopers also.
