I attended the GIE+Expo in Louisville a week ago and saw these brakes "in the flesh" so to speak. I saw the newer version of the brakes which are disk brakes. I was really impressed with the disk brakes. I think the disl brakes are a much better idea than this but as you can see, these brakes work well just the same. And I LOVE Bad Boy mowers!

I don't and won't do a steep hill with a zero turn. No way. Making a few extra bucks just isn't worth getting paralyzed or killed. It's good to add another level of safety as long as it doesn't give the operator an extra level of chutzpah to do steeper hills or do steep hills faster.

Ok that is crazy LOL. If that thing rolled over on you, you would soooo be hurtin.
That mower is a freaking tank! Why doesn't it have any roll over protection?
Still, i would rather use a stander on a hill like that. Yikes!
Good find though and very interesting application of technology.

Steve, Like said, the ones with the disk brakes impressed me much more than the others.
And if you want intensity, watch this...
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/m6HrPj1T72k&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/m6HrPj1T72k&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
and this....
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5k_YdGIq2Bg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5k_YdGIq2Bg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
and this
now go here and scroll to the bottom of the page and look at the pic that is set as the back ground at the very bottom of the page. You will see the disk brakes installed.

Drive up here and try my JD X749, the stability of this thing is insane, four wheel drive, all wheel steer, diff lock front and rear, it leaves a ZTR in the dust when it comes to grades and yes it will mow just as fast, price tag is steep but you get so many other benefits a ZTR doesn't offer, a PTO and a three point Cat 1 hitch, this thing is amazing. Best of all it's diesel as is most of my gear, it will run for about $0.94 cents an hour.....I don't know of any gas engine that will come close and we pile the hours on the equipment.
I plan to trade my 997 ZTR for a X749 as it gives me more options and better performance.

Well it certainly is something! I like the suspenseful music as he is driving down the hill. He was leaning pretty hard and you keep thinking, will he flip? Will he flip?
WOW
It certainly is something! The brakes seem to work great.
The thing I wonder is are these machines simply not designed for this kind of mowing and will adding brakes to them like this give the operator a false sense of security?
In part of the video you can see the mower sliding it's rear tires down the hill and then in another part you can see the mowers front tires come off the ground like a wheelie as he reaches the peak.
Very intense stuff!

Andy, how does your tractor handle the braking issues compared to these mowers with the TedBrakes?

All but one of my tractors are Hydrostatic, even on a very steep hill just take your foot off the forward pedal and it will stop right away, the brakes are pretty amazing although I generally only use them for parking on the trailer.
One advantage to a 749 is the all wheel drive, I can go down a very, very steep hill and never loose grip with the ground.
