SURFACE PREPARATION
All surfaces must be considered dirty and must be cleaned prior to application. A good rule of thumb for cleaning various surfaces is:

SIGN MATERIAL CLEANER
Painted Metal and Wood Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA), also known as Denatured Alcohol
Glass IPA or Vinegar/Water Mix
(Cleaners such as Windex Window

Cleaner may also be used.)
Acrylic and Polycarbonate Non-siliconized Acrylic Cleaner and anti-static rag to remove static charge and last minute dust
Banners and Awnings IPA or Vinegar/Water Mix
For Expanded PVC sheet Vinegar followed by a quick wipe with Toluene

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS
Air and application surface temperatures must be above 40 degrees F for non-reflective and 55 degrees F for reflective markings or the vinyl will have trouble adhering to the surface.

Hinge Method

Installing adhesive vinyl graphics is simple if you follow these step by step instructions. In this example they are applying a windshield decal to an automobile using the hinge method. The same principle used in this example applies to all hinge applications regardless of the surface or size of the graphic.

Step 1 - Clean the application area with alcohol. In this example they are applying vinyl to glass. Because it is porous, glass should be cleaned several times, especially if rainex or wax has ever been used.

Step 2 - Center the decal onto the application surface. Put small pieces of tape on the top corners to hold it in place.

Step 3 - Apply a piece of masking tape across the top of the vinyl graphic thus forming a hinge.

Step 4 - Take a pair of scissors and cut between each letter. (Either all at one time or one by one as you apply)
