Question What to charge for large lot 11 acres.

I have a large lot that is 940x500 or 470,000/11 acres. I have 2 60 in mowers for the job. No trimming just mowing and the lot is flat no trees. What would you bid this for?

I got confused here. Are these two lots? Or what did you mean by the two different dimensions.

940 ft x 500 ft = 470,000 sq-ft

470000 sq-ft x (1 acre / 43560 sq-ft) = 10.8 acres.

It is 1 lot 10.8 acres. Can you add to the calculator to put in larger sq ft dimensions to get bids? I was thinking about bidding this by adding another 60 inch mower which would give me 3 mowers on the job. Do you think that would be a better way to bid?

How often are you mowing the property? Is it a weekly job?

I don't think it should matter how many mowers you use on the property, it's still the same amount of work. A crew of 2 is less efficient than a crew of 1. A crew of 3 is less efficient than a crew of 2. Doubling or tripling your crew size does not increase production by double or triple.

I don't know why I didn't make the field larger for larger numbers but I should have on here. I don't think it is an issue in the downloadable or android version though.

To work around it on here, I use the largest area size I can enter and then I multiply the final output to make it appropriate for the size being mowed.

I don't understand the point of these calculators.

Putting in a smaller deck size increases the price but why would a customer care that you bought a small mower? What's that to them?

Changing the crew size changes the price. What if you have a guy out sick? Do you drop the price?

Why should I decrease my price when I upgrade to a larger mower at a huge expense?

The calculator would give the price to charge based upon your costs. If you upgrade to a larger tractor, on page 2 you plug in the tractor price and that is going to be reflected in your quote. Your costs will vary a bit, but go by the daily norm. You may estimate your trimmer to last 3 years but if your employee straight gasses it, it's going to be an added expense. That has to come from somewhere. You won't charge the customer, but it is still in your I&E whether you use a calculator or not. All this calculator is doing is plugging in your costs vs. the time it is going to take to perform the task. It's not gospel. If you go to bid on a customers lawn and you mentally calculate the time to be 30 minutes and you need $100 an hour to show a profit, you bid at $50. What happens if Joe has the flu and can't work for you that day? You still charge $50, right? Only thing is, it takes you twice as long but you don't have the wear and tear on the mower Joe uses, plus you don't have to pay Joe, and he can't straight gas your trimmer.....

In reality there is no way to estimate a lawn by time. Every time I'm on a lawn it takes a different amount of time to mow. There are too many variables to be able to count on time estimates. How do you know what your walking speed will be at the time of day you do the work? How do you consider down time?

These calculators just seem needlessly complicated to me and they don't seem to get close to my prices.

Of course I can understand making them as an exercise in trying to figure out a good pricing structure, I just don't think they do what I'd need them to do which is to give a fair price to every customer. Do you actually use them to run estimates?

What does the calculator say compared to my pricing? The original question was 470,000 square feet.
